Its nearly 9 years since ive had anything that resembles a bench and ive had to resort to working on the floor or on other makeshift stuff, I acquired these timber frames/stands/hop-ups whatever they are a while back so with a bit of reclaimed pallet wood behold sensible height work surface! they may not be lookers but they are strong, boy its going to make life so much easier with the impending vehicle works coming up!

Is there enough clearance between the new arm and the chain adjuster ? Probably but looks close.
Just noticed that you will be riding it in trials, the reason for it to be routed above the swinging arm is to avoid contact with the sections and get damaged . Not a good idea to lower it IME.
Also I never felt the need for a good rear brake anyway especially off road but that is really a personal thing , Thinks! I never used one when road racing either ,too many other controls to worry about.

hi, yes plenty of clearance around the chain adjuster which is why it’s kicked out. I was expecting comments about it not being a good idea to lower it for trials use which is why I said that I was putting brake performance above trials riding considerations. I’ll be doing a mix of road and greenlane riding and the odd bit of trials. Not really sure yet. It’s a work in progress and no doubt this set up will not be forever

Working on the floor is no fun, especially as you get older. I've been making work benches recently and it's a bit of a revelation. I know it's obvious, but free bench space can end up being a luxury when you're in the habit of just acquiring a little more stuff all the time to do things better and more efficiently.

You'll end up doing more because you're comfortable and not bent over all the time.

Just keep it clear and don't cover it in crap.

That's the sticking point though. We never expect a different result. We know full well an empty bench will become piled high with crap in no time whatsoever.

Top is butt welded TIG at 35a with .8mm filler when needed, front is MIG plug welded and the bottom is spot welded.

How much usable range have you got in the jaws? It looks like the jaws will hit the bed if you open them too far.

...did the exact same repair on one years ago. How did you get on with distortion? No matter how careful I was I ended up with some on the large flat area...

Bit of an optical illusion

Just checked it , they will fall out before hitting the bed and are past what I would call a "safe" amount of thread retaining them before they bump into the saddle of the lath. (they still clear in the photo , by about 1mm)
