anyone jacked in the tv licence ?

looking at the tv licence declaration for not having one as we never watch live tv anymore . mrs has netflix and a firestick and i watch car videos on youtube

are they really saying we still need one if watching online films etc , for the record i have no problem telling a door knocker to jog on , but the mrs might squeal and get made to say something she shouldnt

yes but they cant do anything with me as im anologue tvs with no freeview units

cable box sent back as that recieves freeview

all thats left is internet access and theres no internet either as they imply if you view live stream through there services which i dont use or connect to the bbc website

some links on here takes you to the bbc website too view and that can imply you connect to the bbc website to view there media

im sure there search warrant isnt viable as that would imply they have more powers than the police to do a computer search which they dont

as goes for being locked up for not tv license i dont think they can do that any more only fine you

im also at a strong view of sacking liniker as that payment he gets is an insult to tv license payers as its not value for money anymore

No, you don't need a TV license if you are not watching scheduled TV, not sure of the exact wording but if you are watching youtube video's there is no need.

its implyed live stream or live stream by there servers you need a license for

they also imply they can search your pc to see if you are watching live streams via the bbc website servers

it would mean they have more powers of search than even the police do with an actual search warrant

if you use sat tv or cable they will have a list of people that are able to view freeview channels

anything freeview tvs, freeview units recieve freeview will be licensed theres no way around it even if you remove them from the search listing as you can still recieve the signal

internet viewing is a different matter all they have is a computer ip address and they would need the info from cable or alternative suppliers

other than searching your pc theres no other way for them to find out

the warrant is implied they can but that would mean the bbc have more powers than the police for a search of persons computer

Its wrong that you should have to prove that you dont watch somthing, try watching netflix or prime, sky without a subscription. if everyone had to pay to watch BBC they would have very few customers.
especially after the woke Doctor Who at the weekend, asking an Alien what its pronouns were.

Answer NO to all the questions and it still tells you that you need a license.
Clear certain cookies and finally you can get it to say No License needed...

Have not had a tv licence for years. You do not have to tell them that you do not need one. If one of their "goons" call on you firstly ask who they are. When they say tv licensing, just politely say no thank you and close the door. Do not engage in any conversation with them. They are just commission based salespersons, not officers, inspectors or any other suchlike. They have absolutely no powers to question you, enter your premises etc.

If you don't watch or record live broadcast TV (on any device) or use BBC IPlayer you don't need a licence. You don't need to tell them, and the "inspectors" are just salesmen with no powers.

You'll get a boat load of threatening looking letters that are all bull sh1t, just bin them. If you do get a visit from one of their "salesmen" (unlikely) just say no thanks and shut the door.

You can make a declaration on the TV licencing web site that lasts 2 years, but in my experience they still send the letters.

You can have any amount of TV receiving equipment in your property. You DO NOT need a licence to have it or use it for another purpose.

Every one of these threads seems to get heated and then deleted because people don't understand the rules.

This is one of their tactics. They will try and engage you in conversation, hoping you will say something that they can use as evidence for further investigation. Unfortunately many women, being more polite than us chaps, get into trouble as a result. Do not engage in any conversation with them!!!!

Not had a TV or a licence for over 10 years.
Had plenty of threatening letters which just go straight in the bin but not had one for a year or two.
Once I was working on the computer upstairs, it was summer so had the window open. I heard someone asking a neighbour where my house was. Then heard the letter box and went down stairs to find a letter which said "we called but you weren't in but we will call again" and that is the only physical call we have had.
If he had been brave enough to chap the door I am not sure if I would just tell him to F off or invite him in to inspect, probably the former if I am honest as that is more fun.

I remember TV licenses - they were abolished here about 50 years ago. I think there was still something on to watch then too.

You must still have numerous channels with worthwhile programming.

Cancelled my direct debit for my tv licence in 2020, I get an email every few years and all I need to do is reply saying nothing has changed and that’s it. Never had anyone at my door over it.

Maggie Thatcher wanted to abolish the TV licence fee. At the time it was still just about worth watching. These days it's a joke - as witnessed by the latest travesty of Dr Who. BBC has been far too lovely lefty for many many years now and the tactics they use to get the fees in are a serious case of harassment. Keep forgetting to cancel mine as it's on direct debit. Will sort it asap as I only ever watch Youtube.
