we had a golf R stolen at gun point from a lad a work in the car park and it turned up with the roof missing being stripped in a garage in alum rock
the garage "knew nothing" of its origins and were stripping it as a scrap vehicle despite being less than 3 years old at the time
so unless tougher restrictions are put on the sale of second hand parts and the VIC check process more stringent (ie reciepts and proof of part reciepts etc) this will forever be a problem

I worked in that part of Birmingham for 20 years, sadly far too much of that going on - we ‘lost’ several from a locked warehouse overnight, we managed to buy most of them back, not one was more than a mile away…

Unfortunately Fiestas are the most stolen car at the moment. It will stripped for parts, mainly body and sold to body repair shops or so the reports say. If true it wouldn’t take much for the police to get on top of it but that would involve doing some investigation work.

What state are we in when the fuzz won't prosecute owing to age FFS! Seems like the easy way out again. If you can't be done under a certain age at what age does that apply to the O.A.P's 70....75.........80 ?

depends on how they measure it as most by manufacturer like yours is per 100,000 registered vehicles. With much less Land Rovers on the road than family runarounds it bumps it up the rankings. Still very poor and with their very low ranking in reliability surveys I’m not sure if waking up on a morning to find your LR stolen is something to be upset or celebrated.

OK, I'll bite... the main difference is that over here there is about one illegal gun to every thousand people.
Over your way it's about 1000 legal guns, per person

Years ago when Sierra Cosworths were newish and popular for the naughty types get away motor, a friend has a visit from the police, suggesting he put his in the garage, as there were folk out with a shot gun trying to steal one….

Stripping cars for bits is nothing new, its always the sporty models as the bits sell more easily.

Its endemic round here, Fiestas & Range rovers, police caught a bunch a few months back but looks like they or others have started up again. Car got broken into two nights ago in the next road, its happening every night.

One of the guys here, the least likely bloke you would think as a Cosworth owner – more a Morris Minor – he told a tale of being worried about it being stolen off the drive, so tied his alsation’s lead to it through the letter box . . .

He hadn’t thought of what would happen to the dog’s head if it did get taken until I suggested the lead disappearing through the letter box might lead to a bit of a problem keeping it on the dog’s body . . .

I find it a poor reflection on the state of your society when the population feels they must be armed to live safely. I can imagine it in downtown Kabul but america, not so much.

I have this discussion on a regular with a yank friend who “needs” an AR15 to defend his home. As yet I’ve not been successful in making him understand that high velocity rifle ammunition is probably not the best thing to let loose in your living room, in a house made of wood and plasterboard.

Nothing against guns, god knows I shoot plenty but at least have a decent excuse for one
