Tree Stump

Neighbour's tree stump, sycamore, has broken my gravel board and fence panel. His fault as such but we get on. He rents the place but lives hundreds of miles away. He's had someone in who cut it down to about 2'. I've since taken it down further with my 36V Einhell chainsaw.

I'm now here 'ish:

I thought to maybe cut a channel in and drop the gravel board in that. Easier said than done. Already killed one chain.

@DAPPH suggested a jet wash to remove the soil around the roots. Tbh I don't fancy the mess. I was wondering about making one of those secondary burning, smokeless barrel incinerators and sitting that on top with some barbecue charcoal chucked on the stump.

ive posted before but the barrel will burn your grass and the rocket type will also do the same they are hot

i used my rocket barrel to burn paint off some sheets and it did it whilst using very little wood

Conifer tree roots

I have just had to cut down a 10ft conifer next to my front Garden wall...could not disturb the roots as it would of undermined my wall footings,ime now left with a 6" high stump about 8" thick..how can i now kill it so it does not grow back please chaps?

I've found a reciprocating saw (sawzall) is great for tree stumps. A long coarse hss blade is more tolerant of clay/stones than a chainsaw. I'm still using a cheap parkside blade that has cut out 2 small tree stumps & is still cutting ok.

the barrel will burn your grass

I can peel the astro turf back my side! Any damage to my neighbours lawn, well it's his tree has caused the issue. Tbh I'd just fill with some soil, might even scattter some grass seed for him. I'll try the recip saw. Might even have to get the jetwash out

With fire ID be more worried about the adjacent concrete fence posts and panels.

I've already drilled a mix of 1/2" & 1" holes about 6" deep.

Local hire shop will have pedestrian stump grinders at a fair price.




And hole for poison only need to be around the outer edge. I cut a cap then bore cut a channel around the edge. Fill it with ammonia sulphamate then nail the cap on top.

No use to you, here I pay £80. It's dear for one job but less than 2days digging.

Dig a foot around the stump then a chainsaw will do it no problem, Id say I'd have it out in half hour. If your careful it wont blunt the chain.
Recip saw would do it but take ages.

You'd be lucky to not damage your chain.

Be about a mug of petrol, you'll use more in a chainsaw.

A cluster disc in a 9” angle grinder would rasher the top of that stump off. It would still need killing off if you don’t want regrowth.

I'm a cheapskate careful with my money, but would buy one of these for my mains drill then drill the stump full of holes till it looked like a giant honeycomb, then smash it all in with a sledgehammer. Long enough to go below ground level...

Looks similar to the little chainsaw blades for grinders that were banned recently- just not so many teeth but bigger!!!

The s stump grinders are literally kist a big circ saw blade adapted on the end of a saw. Be quite easy to adapt one. I'll find an example ...
