Yup, I have one, my family has always had gas dryers.think they need outside ventilation and presumably a gas safe installation and associated pipework and costs. Plus haven't seen a domestic one in years but get your logic on price once installed
White Knight factory in Lightcliffe (ex Crosslee, ex Philips) is now in the process of becoming a housing estate . . . so I'm going to guess you won't see many more . .White Knight are the only domestic ones I've ever worked on but I haven't seen one in years except in the gas training centers.
Remember though that gas is typically 1/4 the price of electric so even if the heat pump is working well it won't be as cheap to run.parents had a gas tumble tryer when I was growing up, worked well, but I remember it being hard to get one when they wanted a replacement
must have bought the first one when I was a kid because I can remember helping my dad run the new gas pipe through the cellar to it, so they probably used them for 20 years
but... I think a heat pump dryer is probably cheaper to run because it's a sealed system, no ventilation in/out of it, just a dehumidifier connected to a spinning drum, a gas one constantly blows hot air out
I've got a heat pump one at home, no idea how much it costs to run, running that, a washing machine and 8amp car charger all on the same 16amp feed
That's alright up until the gravity sprinkler starts upOur drier is wind powered

Used to design industrial ones in a previous life - usually needed a hint of heat in there too.Given that the boiling point of water reduces with air pressure; why not make a vacuum dryer? Plenty of old vaccum pumps kicking around and I'm sure some old calor gas bottles could handle sub-atmospheric pressure?
the gas type can heat air coming in from outside whilst swapping the air from the insidegas is 1/4 the price of electric but they're not doing the same thing?
gas tumble dryer is blowing hot air out the exhaust the whole time
heat pump dryer is a sealed system
