Buy the kit for 10/15 quid, first time you use it, it will have paid for itself.

From a legal point of view, any company repairing a puncture out with the repairable area (centre 3/4), or fitting an inner tube to a tubeless wheel/tyre, would be carrying out a repair not in accordance with the relevant British standard.

I've just spent £1100 on four Pirelli OE spec tyres, they'll last about five years down to ~3.5mm
Extravagant - maybe, safe - as safe as if it was a new car. The brakes and suspension are also maintained to OE standards so that effectively leaves me as the weak link in the chain.

I used them on the sidewall of a couple of punctured tyres in Morocco, they lasted another 10k miles - would probably have done the same again but the tread depth was beyond effective use by then.

Once I have used them I have never replaced them, none have failed/leaked, and this is several tyre repairs overs quite a few years.
Currently have one in my Disco 3 tyre.

What decade did you last hand a tyre fitter an inner tube and ask them to fit it to your own tyre?

What decade did you last hand a tyre fitter an inner tube and ask them to fit it to your own tyre?

last year on my trailer mini wheels and my spare van wheel and yes they did fit them i buy all my new van and car tires of them and have done for over 40 years along with exhausts so they dont mind

I had a violent f/o/s blowout in my van Friday,the noise shook me ,nothing on the road,it was a sidewall rip,retreads,6 years old,only done about 22,000m,so maybe exceeding their lifespan,so will replace the near side aswell.
No date codes on those,but from a reputable uk firm. Btw,the steering remained perfect at 45mph.

Not all tubeless tyres can run with tubes, tyre profile aspect ratio needs to be 70 or above and even then the internal ribbing of the tyre can chafe through/thin a tube enough for it to deflate.

so you have all the gear to do the job yourself but then take it somewhere else to be done. and you've not bought an exhaust or tyre from anywhere else in the last 40 years....... that doesnt make much sense.

look at my post again i said i buy ALL of my new tires from the same place for the last 40 years and yes i have the tire bead breaker and do most of my own but i aint got a balancing machine and can put the expenses through my business

I do as well. Given the small contact patch, the awful state of UK roads, our extremely variable weather patterns, oh and the fact I kind of value being alive, yeah. Premium tyres are not a luxury to me. DIY puncture repair strings are also not for me.

What I have found with cheaper tyres is they are noisy. My Skoda came on 4 new Matador Hectorras which gripped well but damn near deafened me. Allegedly made by Continental but on checking they are owned by Continental, nothing more. Michelins are a full 3db quieter than the nearest rival, which is basically half as noisy.

I do use the same guy for all things tyre related. Sensible bloke, won’t do dangerous stuff but hates wasting money. He does sell Chinese tyres as well as the more premium brands but doesn’t force them down anyone’s throat. Cheaper than kwiknkrappy too. Won’t fit tubes, won’t repair dangerous punctures, doesn’t get involved with part worn stuff and the icing on top is that he has the Hunter 4 wheel alignment system.

I know everyone makes their own choices but a well driving car is no much more pleasant for me.
