Tyre date codes

The youngest boys new car has two rear tyres made in China with no visible date codes, we've had a good look but I can't see any four digit codes on the outside sidewalls, I'll have a look on the inside, the tyres are nice and supple and have plenty of tread so aren't that old but I don't like cheap tyres!
Is this right?

crappy 3d world tires are ok in the dry but rubbish in the wet

Vehicle tyres not showing a date code would not allow an MOT pass. Go back to the seller and current MOT station for information. For safety reasons have the tyres replaced immediately.

1 black

Not something I'd heard before but it may well be correct. Do you have a link to the rules ?

I'd change them. Bad experience with plastic tyres, bonnets aren't cheap.

If they are Nanking - then don't get too carried away - they are actually pretty decent tyres - do some googling of tyre reviews on owners forums. Do some good track orientated tyres too.

I've had some good brand name tyres that have been pants - Uniroyal rainexperts are my current choice of a reasonably priced, amazingly grippy and pretty long lasting tyres.

Awesome for lift off oversteer, in my younger and dumber years I had a terrible pair of rear tyes and michelins on the front of my old clio, made for a well balanced car, wouldn't recommend it though.

My current car has 185/65R14 Falken SN110 all round, they are A rated for wet grip and a very good tyre for the money, wet grip is comparable to the Michelin Energy saver+ they replaced but they don't wear quite as well.

Finally had a look on the inside and found that DOT make with dates, both 2020.
They'll do for now.

Only on hgv steer axles.

I must admit I hate crappy tyres, even more so when they are unmatched but when buying bottom end of the market it's difficult to justify spending £300 on tyres for a vehicle that cost £700-900 when the tyres are all perfectl legal with thousands of mile left in them. I've got a changer and balancer so could just keep the ones I take off as spares but I know the reality is I'll probably never put them back on.

@dobbslc surely your son will soon take the edge off those front ones unless he's got a black box, I know mine did

I called into a tyre shop on Saturday as my rear tyre had started to loose air slowly and my 2nd spare wasn't holding air (2 rims both with some corrosion?). My spare is on the car now so I'm not stuck.

The nearest tyre place I called into refused to look at one as their policy was "no tyres over 5 years old" and the other would need to be sent away to have the rim "renovated". I'll try a different shop next time I'm out.

It makes me realise how lucky I am to have used retro-friendly tyre shops in the past.

That's about expanding their profits and catching out people that don't know any better which is most of the numptys in a car these days ££££!
Nothing to do with tyre safety at all.
I'd also take my money elsewhere.

The annoying thing is they would have fitted two new tyres and did a half hearted job cleaning the rim and they would have been leaking again in a few months.

These and others are the reasons I have my own changer and balancer, the biggest reason for me is convenience. If you tinker with cars and have some space they are a no brainer.

another thing they dont l;ike doing is a tire has a puncture small nail on the edge of tread and they wont repair it thats fair enough hand them over an innertube to fit and they choke most rims you can fit them some you cant
