Soon got the crimps into order, now I can see at a glance what I'm short of.

Only slight thing is the lid is a little more breakable than I'd like, and Amazon's delicate handling together with their cheapskate packaging didn't help.
I'd say I won't break it in normal use, but parcel workers are another breed.
Not worth returning as it's only a small hole in one of the boxes, easily sorted.

My favourite whisky has become quite hard to find recently, but I found a company in Cornwall selling a two-pack with a blended thing called "Campbeltown Loch" so I thought it would be interesting to try that while also getting another lovely bottle of the lovely stuff...

Acquired some memory to fill the vacant slot in my laptop. I use Onshape for CAD but occasionally F360 and trying to open large files tied my laptop in knots with only 8gb. Good price from CEX.

Asked a mate if he had a vice for sale. Left me a message. Vice collection has now grown by five, plus two others bought at the weekend. Oops.

The mag vice was in poor condition. Handle seized. Stripped down, cleaned out, and surface ground the inside sliding face. Reassembled. Smooth action. No loss of magnetism. Next job grind top and base.

I don't mean to be a dick Brain but how have you determined that there is no loss of magnetism? The Eclipse handbook states that their chucks are magnetised after assembly and will suffer loss of performance if the magnetic circuit is opened even for an instant.

You can get lucky, but there would have been a loss of holding force for certain.

Found out all about this when I took a few DC Permanent Magnet motors into the rewinders.

Got schooled when i went to pull the rotor with no keeper machined up to slide in.

Pete, I understand your question. I have also downloaded (your?) manual uploaded to another website - thanks.

It's impossible for me to state absolutely there is no loss. Indeed, I couldn't operate the chuck "normally" before it was disassembled. I have two other mag chucks - a Ratcliffe compound sine and an eclipse AX614/1. If I use my carefully calibrated hand and arm muscles they all appear to offer the same degree of hold.

The mag chuck was sold to me as needing attention, possibly scrap, priced accordingly. It was therefore a low risk fix and one that appears to have gone well.

Bear in mind I did not remove the magnets. I removed the base and the frame. I'm not sure about this, but if one side has a keeper, maybe that is sufficient? Anyway, it works.
