not that big but but dog normaly sorts them out in our house

I’ve watched a large spider crawl over my dog’s stomach as he lay (upside down!) on the carpet, staring at it.
That hound is way too laid back sometimes…

My cat love's spiders. Big or small they get a few swats and then eaten. If there's one on the ceiling he just sits looking at it until I lift him up to grab it.

I was never bothered about spiders until I was made aware of camel spiders, one of the lads in Basra had one lay it's spawn in his nut-sack whilst he was sleeping. Entirely his own fault because he didn't check his doss-bag before he got in it. The 'small' ones are the ones to worry about - they can jump up to 2 metres, the larger ones can grow to a leg-span of 350-400mm. the only thing we found that dealt with them effectively was M.O.D. fly spray+ lighter....

Ha, does he take swats at the spider while you are holding him near the ceiling?

I can guess there will be some people that eat spiders in some parts of our planet. I mean, they eat insects don't they so probably spiders too.

Had a big spider fall off of the chassis of my landrover, straight on to my face, made me jump gave myself a black eye and crushed it between my forehead and the chassis rail.

Bloody hurt..

I can imagine a lot spiders being eaten in the jungle wars of the 60s in Vietnam, and other things too.

Mates son keeps spiders as pets, he's probably got about 80 in his bedroom. I keep telling him when on of the big Tarantula's dies to save it for me so I can deep fry it. Supposed to be really tasty.

I just saw this thread.
A few days go I noticed this guy/gal down on our floating dock. Quite large...maybe 2-3/4 to 3 inches across the legs. You can see just a small percentage of its offspring crawling around; most of them were crowded into a corner where I couldn't get a shot of them. Judging by the tiny discarded exoskeletons, it appears that lot of the little ones had already molted. I had to be quick to get a photo, since the slightest movement on my part and the big one would dart under the orange life ring.

When we lived out west in Utah, an occasional tarantula (Aphonopelma) would find its way into our garden (sorry, no photo) and set the dog barking, usually in the fall, when the males would leave their burrows in search of some hanky panky with a female of their ilk. BIG guys, occasionally over 6" across and fascinating to watch.

Here in Maine, a major concern is with ticks...and of course giant lobsters:
