Cracked windscreen

My sister has been borrowing my car.
It’s a 2002 focus but 50k miles and looked after
Coming home tonight on the m25 a stone cracked the windscreen, but no obstructing the view
A police idiot stopped her close to home phishing because it’s an old car. The idiot was even pretend inspecting the engine
He nicked her for the crack and said she should have pulled up on the hard shoulder on the dangerous rush hour m25 and called for recovery. A lone female as well . I’d never stop on the hard shoulder unless it was 100% necessary as it’s so dangerous .
After begging he escorted her the final mile home and again didn’t make a lone female walk home at night.
She’s now panicking about the fine.

I would make a complaint as it was not obstructing view and laminated.
To suggest stopping on M25 is madness if not the last resort, and why stop her there if he had to look for a problem

Exactly he frightened her saying it could explode any moment. He was either lying to scare her or misinformed and stupid which I’m thinking is more the truth

I think they rely on contesting a fine being more hassle than paying it, definietly worth seeking legal advice, wasn't long ago it was legal to drive an unroadworthy vehicle to the nearest place of repair, not sure of the exact laws today. Hard shoulders are for emergencies, a cracked windscreen that doesn't effect the driver's view is hardly an emergency and terrible advice considering how dangerous hard shoulders can be.

Could be worth you going in with her as it is your car to see the Inspector (Wink) and ask was it a sensible thing to suggest to a lone woman, on a motor way , at night, and perhaps he should have a word

Fined for a cracked windscreen by the plod? Can't see that ticket being valid for long once you put in a complaint against the officer considering it happened on the way home. Also suggesting recovery for a cracked screen from the motorway just proves he is a class A muppet

not for a pull up to be questioned as for crack on windscreen what time did she get pulled ?

as goes for being escorted home there was no reason to do so

id be seriously asking why he was under the bonnet for a windscreen pull and why he escorted her home? had he tampered with things under the bonnet needs to be said that way as well

Just remembered this from my tester training over 15 years ago, never had to do it myself, https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-testing-guide/k-police-vehicle-defect-rectification-scheme-vdrs If it's still in use then I would have thought a cracked screen would be an ideal use of the scheme.

I drove my allroad with a cracked windscreen for several years , and it passed mot''s that way too

My thoughts as well - if it not obsuring the line of view - and he lifting the bonnet - suggesting the car was recovered. If I was a female - I would have just dialed "999" - hit the red button - had it all on tape recorded.

You laugh - my friends Dad in an old peoples home - he got infected wound on his leg - nobody would listen to him - so he dialed "999" - Ambulance came and scooped him up with 30mins - big questions being asked now.

Real smashed screens do show up in the dark with head lights on them...

They just do....

They look worse in the dark than in the daylight...
