I can bet that the newspapers would be interested in a story of a copper going under a lone females bonnet for no reason on a pull and check for a 20 year old vehicle

to be then ticketed for a cracked windscreen

My sister has been borrowing my car.
It’s a 2002 focus but 50k miles and looked after
Coming home tonight on the m25 a stone cracked the windscreen, but no obstructing the view
A police idiot stopped her close to home phishing because it’s an old car. The idiot was even pretend inspecting the engine
He nicked her for the crack and said she should have pulled up on the hard shoulder on the dangerous rush hour m25 and called for recovery. A lone female as well . I’d never stop on the hard shoulder unless it was 100% necessary as it’s so dangerous .
After begging he escorted her the final mile home and again didn’t make a lone female walk home at night.
She’s now panicking about the fine.

I assume round Essex?
The police in the uk at the moment are tyrants! I’ve been told the government is making each force earn at least 10% of their own income. It would make sense why they’re forcing haulers to have escorts when they never bothered before. They’re a joke.

Sounds like typical MET incompetence. I've no idea who you should complain/escalate things to buy that's what you should do for sure.

As for being pulled for an old car, that's a thing? Mine's a 51 plate now and getting seriously dog eared on the exterior. I keep it mechanically safe enough but still not particularly keen on spending time fending off police attention needlessly. Mind you, 20+ yr old cars in Cornwall are probably a bit more common

focus an old car? theres still dozens of them about , the engine inspection sounds super iffy what was he planning to see in there ?

all while theres hundreds of cars without working headlights

I live in caravaner central . They close dual carriageway down to race horse and traps , burn mobile homes on the verges , terrorise locals and the police are not to be seen .

They don’t turn up to crime reports even crime in progress so one has to wonder what they’re here for.
I won’t mention what the met are famous for

I went to have a look this morning and she said he was mocking owning an old car.

they really do like picking the low hanginf fruit dont they? easier to pick on a lone law abiding woman that tackle some scum that might fight back or make them chase them

I would be talking to the plods nick, go to the top, threaten media etc if you get fobbed off. The guy was wrong, taking advantage, and possibly with creepy intent. He should be sacked, simple.

I agree, a carefully worded letter to the local chief constable explaining the facts , and stating you are sending a copy of the letter to your local MP and solicitor should do the trick .
point out the fear involved when a solitary "officer"? actually looked under the bonnet etc ,and with recent cases of police sexual assault it was terrifying to say the least not knowing if he was tampering with the vehicle to disable it. please tell your sister from us on here we are sorry she was put through this .

Sorry but most of you are talking rubbish. As an ex traffic police officer, a 20 year old car with a crack all the way across the windscreen is asking to be stopped. 'It only just happened' may or may not be true, but I've heard that story nearly as many times as I've stopped vehicles for defects, it's very difficult to believe and always taken with a large pinch of salt.

When you say she was 'nicked' do you mean arrested, reported, ticketed, given a vehicle defect rectification form or simply advice or verbal warning?

The car is registered to you presumably. It's night time. How is the officer to know it's a lone female?

I guarantee the officer wasn't inspecting the engine, possibly checking for insecure battery as is quite common, possibly just checking chassis number.

PCC won't be interested. The press won't be interested. The Chief constable won't be interested. Your MP won't be interested.

Here's another version of events from someone else that wasn't there. Me. She was justifiably stopped for driving a car with a crack right across the screen, advised to get it fixed, possibly given a ticket, more likely a vehicle defect form and escorted home. Not really grounds for a complaint.

is it common place to root around someones engine bay then? are all officedrs trained in what to expect under the bonnet?

I was trained and qualified vehicle examiner, not all are, of course. Not all defects require any particular qualification. It's certainly common to check vehicles that have other obvious defects. It's not only common but pretty much essential to check the chassis number is correct.

as you stated if it was night the copper wouldnt have seen the crack either on the windscreen some windscreens can still pass an mot even whilst a crack is there as it comes with an advisarory

as goes for chassis number thats on the lower right windscren area and also on your front bar radiator area, with the age of the vehicle it will also have engine covers on the engine so very hard to check the engine number to the chassis number ive taken enough parts of the engine in mechanics shop to know there annoying

as goes for stopping the vehicle cant say age of it as thats a pathetic comment to be used ive been stopped for some things ( like many others ) caused in error or hadnt known usually lights or damage to the vehicle, police searched for contraband with consent but not to check under the bonnet

there was no need for them to go under the bonnet of the car and certainly not grounds to do so

insecure battery checking fluids by a copper is just getting pathetic and havent the police got better things to do like chase real criminals or catch slave users of london
