Well... This didn't go well at all. I got too eager and jumped in without practising. I'm using 0.8mm metal and was trying to butt weld it into the gap I cut out, rather than lay it over the top as I want it flush and invisible once done.
I have a Clarke 135te mig. I tried it on 2 min power and wire feed was 5 or 6. Immediately blew out the first bit I tried to tack. Tried lower settings but didn't seem to be welding the old metal and new together very well.
I've made a bigger repair panel so I can cut this back out and start over, but obviously I'd like to avoid screwing up again! I'll be doing some practise tomorrow but would be really keen to get some advice on what sort of power and wire settings I should be using?
Alternatively I could buy a joggler and try sitting the patch in from behind the hole but if I can do it just by butt welding a flush panel in, that would be my preference.
