I have little doubt that there is an agenda to drastically cut the amount of personal transport (cars) on the road consuming resources & adding to the carbon footprint.

In a democracy they cannot simply remove the freedom of choice.... but they can manipulate the environment to make car-use so expensive that a great many "choose" (like they have much choice in actuality) to not run a car.

As for "innovative" taxing of EV's.... isn't there already the idea of taxing vehicles for the "plastic particlates" that are released through tyre wear?
They'll always extract their Pound of Flesh somehow or other.
Death & Taxes etc.

The country is run like a giant Ponzi scheme and the idiots that get elected, regardless of their colours, are all the bloody same. No matter how green cars get we will never enjoy the freedom's of our fathers and grandfather's who drove what they wanted, when they wanted and where they wanted. Never before have there been so many rules, laws, schemes, programs, targets set by so many departments for this or that and by people who don't offer one scintilla of a contribution to the furtherment of society. Their claims of doing things for the environment just don't stack up, or at least doing some things for the environment whilst still allowing other far more destructive things to happen leads me to think it's all BS. Apologies for getting political, if I say the electric Porsche looks nice have I redeemed myself?

Well, from what I understand you will be comitting an offence if you drive into the new zone in Newcastle upon Tyne with certain older vehicles, unable to even pay a charge just banned completely. Can't be right surely?

Currently cars are excluded, its only commercials at the moment. But cant see anything about total exclusion! But it wouldn't surprise me the leftie greeney zealots are getting more and more power. But all it will do is help kill city centre's and their business even more quickly.

To get to their equivalents outside of it, I need to drive twice as far north now! Thats more fuel (not £12.50s worth) and more pollution... seems counterintuitive to me. The small businesses inside the zone will suffer as well as people like me wont be driving in to use them.

In Wales we have the Remedials instigating the blanket 20mph limit to replace the 30mph come September.
If it were just residential housing estates & not through-routes, then fine.
But no.
So now every trunk road that has a village on it (all of them), & especially every village with a significant gradient on it (a helluva lot of them) - will have lorries, buses & anything laden/towing - either burning up its brakes & polluting more, or having to ceawl/grind & labour slowly up through the village from the bottom, making more noise, using more fuel, adding more emissions.
It's beyond cretinous, has zero basis in safety (since villages on trunk roads just don't have kids playing in the road), there's no statistical evidence to support it, and it'll add pollution and of course Heap more expense onto transport of every type & purpose....
.... and that is before they unleash a fleet of Scamera vans & knobjockeys with hairdryers to fleece everyone driving totally safely but 1 or 2mph over an arbitrary, draconian& wholly unnecessary limit.

Back to e cars. I see that some guy has launched an E car that's about 8ft x 5ft ish with a top speed of a eyewatering 28mph with the restriction that it is illegal to use motorways and not advisable on dual carriageways either. I cannot imagine why but I bet some owner will end up on the m25 with the excuse that the average speed on the M25 is less than his top speed . It's not classed as a car but a quadro something or other. Welcome to the future petrol heads.

Not sure about what one you're on about, but you can now get the Citroen Ami in the UK, which sounds very similar.
The 28mph (45kph) limit is so it can be driven on an AM licence (scooter/moped/light quad).

I hadn't heard about any zones in Newcastle but they have been making it difficult for car drivers there for at least 30 years.
If I can't drive into a town and park within a 30 minute walking distance, I avoid the place as I can't get my shopping home.
Many years ago I bought a full size flat screen TV in Newcaste and got it home strapped on my back when I was riding my motorbike, its impossible to park near the centre of the town without paying a fortune, and most of the central roads are now no-cars-allowed or have other restrictions to deter motorists (ie shoppers)

That is quite possible but once they do start burning I wouldn't like to be anywhere near one!
They should issue these far more - brilliant and so easy to use!

I suspect they must have deflated the tyres before doing the test?
Seems like the best idea would be to cover / wrap EV's with one of these as a precaution before its alight - especially if loaded onto transport?

You'd have thought a cabin fire could be extinguished long before it got down to the cargo decks.

Problem with moving fire damaged vehicles on an open recovery truck is:
They can re ignite when the air movement hits them on the back of a moving truck.

Fire on a ship is a very different ball game to one in say a factory, where protocol is to leave and let the local brigade deal with it. On board there is now where to run which changes the perspective some what. It doesn't matter how much training you have had. The real thing is very different. Internally wearing a ba set isn't for the faint hearted! It takes a great deal of self discipline to follow your training.
Im not going to criticise the crew nationality but it does make a difference. I have very vivid memories, of the fire alarms going off during the night, and three of our Indian crew turning up at a life boat with their bags packed!

Not sure how you can state for sure how the fire started. The cause hasn't been found yet. It's just been reported that they "suspect" the cause was an EV.

I think you should let them investigate the cause first and then report the truth.

I have to ask my Son, he's stationed at Grimsby, they have a lot of specialist chemical firefighting equipment there, he did mention a while back they were getting a wagon with an open tank on the back for dunking the EV into.

I watched a program where a fire engine followed the recovery truck to it's destination in case the EV on the bed re ignited.

I've been told by someone I consider reliable that that's how they are planning on moving suspect electric vehicles off some Scottish islands.
