What I took from it:
We won't be able to create the infrastructure required for charging, and we won't be able to make enough batteries.
They mentioned the mining and the different components required for the batteries, but failed to mention the amount of destruction and pollution caused by mining for the battery components.
Aside from that and whichever side of the fence you're on, it's worth a watch. The next episode is powering homes and green power.

It's not the first time, there was something similar last year when a ship travelling from Germany to USA caught fire off the coast of Portugal. The electric cars on boards caught fire, I seem to remember the ship sank a couple of days later,.
Modern batteries are scary when they catch fire, on a ship with hundreds of car batteriy fires feeding each other it would be impossible to put the fires out.

Yea but you're assuming replacement of the existing cars 1 for 1!
I'm not assuming anything in that way...... But the way this is going probably 75% of people won't be able to afford an EV and will be priced out of using petrol/derv powered vehicles by way of extra ULEZ schemes/maybe road tolls/and fuel hikes.

I reckon it's lower than 75%....ULEZ is basically just a £12.50 daily tax on the poor I think.
Once enough people have EVs there will be a new pollution charge for those too....pollution from tyres and brakes needs taxing maybe?....perhaps per mile of use or something like that.

I travelled 169 miles yesterday, stopped for 45 minutes to charge, toilet break, checked emails, had a coffee and some delicious cake
Today I also travelled 169 miles back home, same 45 minute stop but this time I had a cup of tea and a sandwich, after my toilet break for those who are interested
Also took a call that I would have stopped for anyway.
I pay 30p kWh at this fast (350kw) charger so no more than charging at home
And because I was visiting a client looking to fully decarbonise a large site, the EV opens up a conversation about their chargepoint strategy, we are looking at PV plus battery solution on this one

I don't think ULEZ is an attack on the poor....I think they just want Cars off of the road...
They are slowly but surely introducing the ULEZ schemes across all the cities...By the time 2030 is here the same cameras and more elsewhere could be used for road tolls. The amount of revenue the govt will lose from road tax and fuel it's obvious that that is the way we are heading.
I have little doubt that there is an agenda to drastically cut the amount of personal transport (cars) on the road consuming resources & adding to the carbon footprint.
In a democracy they cannot simply remove the freedom of choice.... but they can manipulate the environment to make car-use so expensive that a great many "choose" (like they have much choice in actuality) to not run a car.
As for "innovative" taxing of EV's.... isn't there already the idea of taxing vehicles for the "plastic particlates" that are released through tyre wear?
They'll always extract their Pound of Flesh somehow or other.

While I don't disagree with this, your aiming your opinions at the private car…..where this is a tax on the poorer folk are the one man band type business who cant afford new motors…these additional costs will be pushed onto the end user you, me and Mrs Jones.
Small business in general will suffer rising transport costs initially till it all settles down in about 20 years. By which time itll be pay per miles, per per particulate, pay to breathe….etc
Its going to affect the poor disproportionately though even if it isn't meant to. I have relatives who live in the zone. The ones I am thinking of have never had a great deal. Used the inheritance from my grandma to buy a decent car having run bangers their whole lives... it was nothing special but a smart but fairly old diesel people carrier. ULEZ means they cant afford to keep it and cant afford to replace it with something compliant. You could run a scrappage scheme... sure but unless you are offering the equivalent of an EV in scrappage money (which wont happen), its pretty useless. Without the car, dad cant drop them all at various places of work. Public transport is not sufficient as it will take hours to get places. What can they do? Cant afford to move, cant afford to stay there. They are screwed by this scheme.
(I also cant visit easily when it comes into effect as I am too tight to pay the £12.50 a day and I have no compliant vehicles. I cant afford a compliant vehicle either)

My neighbour is in the same boat...it isn't just affecting Londoners....it's affecting friends/family visiting from outside.

And small business in towns, who will loose customers with non compliant vehicles. A few weeks ago, I was going to go into a shop in Newcastle, who had a 2000 pound item I was interested in seeing / buying. 12.50 congestion charge….didnt go, so he probably lost the sale. And I wont be the only one whos into shooting or fishing who has a non compliant motor!

Back to e cars. I see that some guy has launched an E car that's about 8ft x 5ft ish with a top speed of a eyewatering 28mph with the restriction that it is illegal to use motorways and not advisable on dual carriageways either. I cannot imagine why but I bet some owner will end up on the m25 with the excuse that the average speed on the M25 is less than his top speed . It's not classed as a car but a quadro something or other. Welcome to the future petrol heads.
On the up-side.... car makers are always struggling to find new names for released models.
I'm hoping one christens a new EV as the "Zip"

Well, from what I understand you will be comitting an offence if you drive into the new zone in Newcastle upon Tyne with certain older vehicles, unable to even pay a charge just banned completely. Can't be right surely?
