Struggling with car seat frames.

Am I missing a trick?

Powder coaters removed the torsion bars from the recliner mechanism and I can't refit them, I am not strong enough to stretch them. Is there some obvious and easy fitting method I am missing?

Not something simple like the left and right seat torsion bars have been swapped?

Have you got the seat in the position where the torsion spring would be under least tension?

If you can get the lower bit of the rod underneath and a small piece of tube on the end and a longish screwdriver (phillips) in the end and use that as a lever ?

Just by good fortune, a mate of mine turned up and he makes two of me. After an initial struggle he resorted to Vice grips and brute force so the job thankfully is done.

I will definitely paint next time. The powder coater not only didn't mask the moving parts as requested, they also melted the head rest plastic friction roller because they put it through the oven multiple times for reasons best known to themselves. I didn't realise that it was plastic as previous ones have come back without damage, so my fault really I suppose. Oh and they lost 1 off return spring and 2 off release cables too.

you have good pictures and thats a mighty starting point ,,, sometimes its possible to clamp the end of the spring with small vise grips , then do all your levering off the vise grips as you get a decent starting point.
And an extra pair of hands goes a long way too.

A bit of 6mmx40mm flat bar as long as you like, drill a hole to slide over the pivot pin (Black circle), then weld a bit of bar stock too go above/below the torsion rod (Green Outlines...), lever down guide hook of torsion bar with bar/screwdriver pop in hole......


PS:- Use Jubilee clip to retain torsion bar from moving forward, if required.
