1.5L plastic spring water bottle - the crinkly type of plastic. Doesn't work with squashy plastic.
Make a hole with a ballpoint pen or similar through the side at the bottom - same diameter as the pen itself.
Squirt in WD40 from an aerosol through the top of the bottle - a mist - a few inches away to drag in plenty of air.
Screw the top on.
Do NOT retire to a safe distance - just hold a lighter to the bottom hole!
I did this a few times showing off to my mates. Instead of the rocket I was hoping for you get an almighty bang.
The last time was the last time for a very good reason.
I must have got the mixture just right.
The explosion was incredible. Nothing much left of the bottle.
The result for both of us was total hearing loss - for about 10 minutes
As your hearing comes back sounds almost seem to be digitised - like robotic voices
Strange buzzing noises gradually clearing.

I knew some people that did that with plastic bags, in your case, the pieces of steel oil can shrapnel could have really caused a problem, a plastic bag, not so much.
New years tradition around here; put CaC2 in an old steel 25 liter metal milk can, add water and ignite. If a football is stuffed in you have a nice canon we used a paper lid that burst, setting of car alarms in the street. How did we grow so old?
