Scorching down here in the valley in deepest Kent. A burst water main a couple of hundred yards down the road, been like it for weeks. Now we're looking at a ban? The infrastructure is so old because the money goes to shareholders. They fix one and the next old rotten bit 30' away goes the week after.

The blokes that "fix it" are generally bodgers who do a poor job so it goes again. Private contractors no doubt bunging someone at the water company. Same as the useless ones who "fix" the potholes.

Renationalise the utilities and bring back proper apprenticeships I say.

It’s on a plain, will be visible from Wantage, Didcot, Abingdon… The county council had earmarked the land for housing development but if it goes ahead the reservoir will feed London.

london can supply itself with 2 new dams built whilst oxford can also supply itself the hills are there

theres no need to build it on other side of the hills unless its the usual subject not in our area

as it goes for housing its also the wrong area as lying in low ground area possibly prone to flooding so even the council is wrong and should build the houses elsewhere instead of in low land

Water and sewerage should never have been privatised. it’s far too important for public health.

I tend to agree with this BUT can you imagine the state we would be in these days with the current Government looking after our water and sewage management Thank God its in private hands i say.

You would have thought the obvious points of water harvesting/reservoir building would be concentrated along the many routes that flood water causes the most misery. After that its only a matter of distribution, I dont think anybody thats lived in a flood prone area would object. Two birds with one stone and all that.

I saw a Japanese toilet, where the sink was over the cistern. Idea was, you washed your hands into the cistern then that was used for the next flush.

Someone on here had used one and said they’re crap. I haven’t. I was taken with the idea though. If we could reuse more water before it leaves the house that would be a start.

If you scaled that up to a lab office building or a hotel that would be lots of water and money saved.

The water that comes off a 20 sq meter garage roof from just half a days rain could water an average garden all week when its dry, This country is missing out on so much water from roof catchment on these big retail parks and factories, no forward thinking at all with this

Back in 94 when Thatcher privatised water in England and Wales public feeling was strongly against it in Scotland, so against a backdrop of a rise in Scottish Nationalism they caved in and let us retain ownership of Scottish water. So we have cheaper water bills and 35% more investment per household than English water authorities. Also cleaner beaches.

We make some strange decisions: free prescriptions, no tuition fees, free bus passes for the elderly, its as well we don't run England

Scottish Water do waste a lot of money though.
My dad put in to get the Septic tank emptied. A sign appeared yesterday that the road is being closed on behalf of Scottish Water next week.
Apparently their new risk assessments classifies the road as too narrow to empty the tank with traffic still on the road, so they are getting the unclassified road closed for the day, despite it never having been a problem for any property on the road for the past 60 years. And cars can still get past any lorry parked by going on to the verge

and for the young! All people under the age of 25 in Scotland get free bus travel.

I genuinely have no clue why and, with the best will in the world, it does seem like my 18 year old paying his own bus fare to college means public money could be better spent elsewhere...

Free bus travel for under 25s is to change long term travel habits.
Why get a car and drive when you can hop on a bus for free?
It's already having an effect, as I know several people in that age group who have no desire to learn to drive.

If countries can clean seawater for drinking then grey river water could easily be filtered and cleaned up before use.

South east water are introducing a hose pipe ban on June 26th.

My supplier Affinity water are not introducing a hose pipe ban.

Generations of kids learnt with their Dad's tools then got their own set which Dad "brought home" from work.
