It may just be a rat, it if you cant headshot something and clean kill it, don't shoot at living things.

Practice untill you can, then kill it.

I don't shoot rats, but always heard peanut butter or mars bars are good bait. Once you can shoot well enough, bait it out to a safe, comfortable area where your sighted in for the correct distance.

I can one shot kill him if it's not in movement
My backyard is 2x2.5 metres i can't miss it, the problem is if it moves no-one can say that it's able to do.
Even so closely it's always a small fast moving target, with virtually no Time to aim correctly .
Instinctive shooting.
It would be 2 shot kill if I miss the first the second would be deadly .
I used to shoot wasps and bluebottles with this gun sometimes managed to hit even in movement, in the 5 metres range.
I'm realistically assuming that I might not be able to get him at first shot .
Mars bars it's a great idea tomorrow I'll get some.
About shooting at living things , I'm against hunting, I'm against killing animals for fun , I'm far from veggie ,but I simply don't like the idea .
In this case it's a treath , it's aggressive and it can do serious damages

A Sealey drill bit sharpener arrived from Amazon this evening. Its too late to fully test it out but cutting one side of a drillbit I unsuccessfully tried to sharpen with my bench grinder is back looking correct and feeling sharp.



This suits my needs for quick and reliable results. I do not need to sharpen enough to warrant learning curve of using bench grinder.

It is quite easy to set up using the video. I wonder are people not resetting the bit before doing the split point sharpening etc?

I will try it out fully tomorrow and test the bits after & report back.

I am embarrassed to say I have never sharpened a drill bit before

I usually buy a good set and use them for 2 or 3 years then buy another set. I managed to damage one of my new German hss drill bits and hence wanted to be able to sharpen from now on. The fresh drill bits put out proper chips, so fast.

Where I think I went wrong was drilling a 3mm pilot hole then going for 7.5mm. My new cordless drill is a bit of a beast and I immediately damaged the 7.5mm bit. Taking chips off the outer edges. User error but if I can sharpen them I have some old sets which can be brought back to life and spread around my two garages for ease of use.

Few months in a machine shop and you'll learn soon how to do it.
It's easy once you get the theory
There are several ways to sharpen them all depends on what you want to achieve.

I sharpened a 3mm one a few days ago. Necessity being the driver. The grinding gauge that's in the back of "The Black Book" is very handy.

Update- tried it this morning grinding a split point on a knackered bit. It's very sharp- putting out chips

Another boot sale today and I found a Stanley mabo nivometre tape measure.
Sort of wanted one of these for a while, so been keeping my eyes open.
Doesnt retract properly though so ill take it apart and see whats up.

Hopefully better than my cheapo ones, and has some (probably never to be used) in between sizes too.
Seemed cheap enough at £15, even if it's just for the better tap holder.

Meca p9321 250mm rotary table to pair with my new Bison 250mm 4 jaw for the milling machine. To say it's heavy would be doing it a disservice!

Need to make a little plate to mount it as the 4 holes to mount the chuck fall right at the end of the tee slots on the table face... Typical of my luck mounting chucks tbh!
