Tracking, third time lucky...

Wish me luck.
I'm just waiting to have the Surf's tracking done again for the third time, I took it in as the steering wheel was off to the right after new tyres and ball joints but after the first attempt by the numpties at this garage it came back with the wheel pointing to the left! I went back and they redid it but it was still the same
I took it back again this morning and they tried putting me off but agree to try again at 4pm...
I've had a very bad day due to other things without this already so I'm likely to blow my stack at them in about half and hour if they fook it up again...
Is nothing any good in this country nowadays?

On my T4,
like u replaced steering joints and others....
I tracked it up myself as I have a set of the old Dunlop gauges.....bought em new 40 odd years ago......
no modern laser sh$ite....all done by mirrors.....lol....

anyway.....
it tracked up right, it steered straight but with just a little feathering on one tyre....
Nothing really but I'm obsesive with tyres... checked it again several times and still spot on....
so I just tweakd the track rod end a little until all was well with my world.....

@frank horton it's just the steering wheel out of line when driving straight.
It drives fine.

It's still cocked to the left when going straight.

At least I've got my money back although the time and fuel wasted cost me more than that

This is a welding forum, cut steering wheel off and weld it in the correct position

Many years ago I had the same issue.

Bought a cheap tracking kit.

Done it myself since.

Shouldn’t have to but that’s the way it is.

Used it a few times on customer vehicles but mainly mine. Only about 10 times in many more years!

I as above do my own tracking you could probably get by with a scribed line around the circumference and a tape measure

I did this on my LDV after having a recon Burman Steering Box fitted.
Trouble is.... there was a silly plastic doohicky with 2 raised bits that cancelled the indicators that I didn't know about and didn't spot.
Put the wheel on in the straight-ahead position, and started doing up the centre nut....
... cue a plasticky crunchy noise and no more self-cancelling blinkers

i also do my own now , touch wood no bad tyre wear etc

had too many lies , camber isnt adjustable mate, steering rods are seized , get home and rack boot is twisted or torn

good enough for race teams etc , not sure the average road car needs lasers n all that, more so someone that knows what theyre doing

exactly and a surf come on its not precision
