I loved mine because i always wanted a TVR Taimar and could not afford one, so the GT6 fitted the dream

To be fair, the GT6 would be running long after the TVR gave up the ghost! Not the most reliable cars on the planet

I learned to drive on a CA Bedford & drove it when I could borrow it for a while, then bought a series 2 Morris Minor. I bought the Minor of my then girl friends (now wife) mother. Car never knew what hit it!

I had a 1972 mini clubman, then a 1972 MG midget, followed by a 1969 TVR Vixen S2. 1600 crossflow engine, quite light so not too slow. It took 2 years to do it up, then I sold it to buy a bathroom for my first house Both the Midget and the TVR are still on the road.

Ford Fiesta mk1. Two tone blue and silver. Bought it off the training officer at work. It was badged as a 1.1L but it had a 957cc engine with the number chiseled off... It lasted 6 months before it was nicked and burnt out.

My first car was rather expensive. I was 19 and earned a load of money from some computer games coding. Bought a brand new Rover SD1 2600SE. £10k in 1986 was a lot of money! I almost bought an Aston DB5 Vantage which was the same price
The SD1 was an awesome car and never let me down. Saved my life in a horrendous 75mph crash off the M4 down a 30 foot embankment nose first in a concrete ditch.
Bought an SD1 Vitesse with the insurance payout and fitted rose jointed touring car suspension. Never driven anything since that handled so well.

I remember riding a Suzuki GT550 in a snowstorm one day and i was demoralised to the point of extinction ...rode in to a car dealers in town and done a straight swap right there for a Vauxhall Victor estate in primer grey and drove home in that with the heater on full blast...You could do that sort of stuff back in the day.

I started with a mini 1000. Then moved up to mk1 escorts, And a KH250 followed by an RD400.

During my ownership the gear lever broke in half.
The local garage used my sills to try out their brand new to them, never had one before, MIG welding machine.
I hit a Datsun Cherry in it at the Black Cat round about on the A1 and learnt new skills;
1. How to panel beat
2. How to brush paint cellulose
3. How to get a Hillman Imp bonnet home on the bus ...

J2 people carrier for £35 removed back benches thew in a 2 ring Calor hob and a double mattress plus cardboard box of cooking kit, tool box and a racing bike .ready to go. 2 years later it had rusted itself to bits and was replaced with a Thames 15cwt 4speed bought by girlfriend . Turned out she was a keeper but the van wasn't.

Reliant regal 21e,lol,by then so fed up of motor biking in the winter ,with the longest commute of all my mates.
Got to 19 and finally passed my test,so bought my mums beetle.
Decided I’d go to Macclesfield in the tricycle via the m1/6 from Sussex,which was home then,everyone said you can’t use the motorways with those,anyway I did and you could,went over the cat & fiddle and Chapel-en-le frith,had to carry a 7mm spanner,to rotate the starter motor commutator occasionally,accessed via a hatch in the footwell,but overall motor bikes held my interest much more ,so those memories are stronger.

1958 Austin A35 van first registered to a butchers shop near Colchester . My bro got it in 1966 for £50
I got it off my big bro for £15 after we did a full strip and engine rebuild with duo flex oil rings to calm the oil burning problem when I was just turned 18 in 1969. ( I'd only just finished my apprenticeship as a City & Guilded grade 2 mechanical & electrical engineer .)
He was posted to Germany in a few weeks later and got a Singer Vogue for his posting there .
God only knows how many times it had been round the block & clock . I sold it in September 1970 for £35 , on the way back home from shopping with my dad we saw it up for £90 in a dealers yard , exactly as I'd sold it to him 40 min earlier .
I walked to the station on the Monday morning 06. 40 hrs. to start my own journey to Germany ,,,, the van was not there . I personally clocked over 13 K miles in it .

Perhaps Audi should have tried those oil rings on their tfsi engines
