Penny packs of Beechnut chewing gum with 5 pieces per pack .
Mixed fruit spangles 3 d per pack so was Rountree fruit gums and a Frys ( Tiffin ??? )bar .

My parents bought 4 packets of crisps for a picnic when we were small, no blue ones in any of them. Dad wrote to Smiths complaining, they sent back 4 blue packets of salt!

Carter's Pop wagon round these parts

A 'Mr Bacons' Pop wagon was the one that called round Swanscombe in North West Kent in the seventies. As well as the usual Lemonade, Ginger Beer etc. they sold a 'Cherryade' which was pretty much the same colour as a telephone box.

We'd smoke this plant we found in the woods I don't know what it was but is was woody and stank

I reckon that’s the same stuff as we used to smoke, knew it as bettytwine or something like that. It was a creeper that hung from the trees like what Tarzan used. Don’t seem to see it in the woods much now, don’t smoke so don’t go looking for it

I was behind this swb series one landy today, brought back memories.This was one of my first vehicles when I were a lad, I replaced the petrol engine with a 499 perkins. Bit of a stunned slug with that engine but made it affordable to use, got a friend and I all around Europe on a bit of an extended working holiday.

Who drove what when they were first on the road?

Rare sight these days.

My 1st car was a mk2 Cortina with burnt out exhaust valves, 17 years of age lapping valves in with no advice from my father as he was a drunken idiot and knew nothing..sorted it and with a guiness beer matt cut into a circle as a tax disc and on we go.. next was the 16E on my hit list but bought a 3L Capri instead,that's another story for another day

My first was an Ex Chubb Fire Escort van, I was 15, flogged it through Exchange and Mart - doubled my money on that one! Then bought another of them (it helped that Dad worked for Chubb ). I too had a Series one 80” a few years later, trailered it home but when I jacked it up the front axle and springs stayed on the ground, the chassis was a bit rotten. Found a replacement down in Romsey so gave it a mechanical refresh but left the body in it’s ex-farm state, was my only transport for a few years.

I loved mine because i always wanted a TVR Taimar and could not afford one, so the GT6 fitted the dream
