Adblock plus for youtube. Cuts out all the ads. The creators on youtube get paid sod all for the ads. Seriously, many creators on the tube advocate it. They get their money elsewhere.

I won't work in the local village's anymore. Seem to think because I live in the same village I should work for peanuts. Don't waste my time quoting now. Plenty of work in Milton Keynes. Plenty of options for suppliers close by wherever I am.
As for skill sharing.
If I can't do something 9 times out of 10 il learn how to do it. If I can't. I pay

the worst part in that is that its happening in every village
its like the local shops, village areas just get asda or tesco delivery drops instead of supporting the small local shop instead they only use the small shop for bits id rather keep my local shop going
They are cheaper until the local shop closes wait until the skill of it is gone. Butchery ect. .. then hike the prices back up. I see it happening in many forms of commercialism sadly. We end up with produce full of stabilisers that's been around the world 3 times over

I was really shocked to discover recently that £45k ON BENEFITS is easily achievable, I wish I earned £45k!
I think the idea of a skillsexchange (definitely needs some strategically placed hyphens) is a nice idea, but I can't help think of some of the useless people I've encountered over the years - after an hour of their time I'd probably be worse off.....
This is where it's at ^^^ Be different, it's you right! Then get paid to be out of work and different. Winds me up.
I took on an apprentice years ago, it was bloody murder, the box ticking and paperwork made it too much trouble as I was really getting nothing out of it.
I remember putting an ad iin the job centre in Bridge road Stockton -on tees one time: "wanted, Driver, clean licence (but would take into account one endorsement) hours to suit, part time or full time." Couple days later, phone call from the job centre: "have any of the 18 applicants been placed with you?" "Placed with us? We haven't seen one yet!" Some people just don't want to work.

Well if there's one of those solar flares they reckon is due, or Putin changes the weather forecast to a couple of thousand degrees and cloudy, the digital 'world' won't last very long.
Unfortunately if/when things go all Mad Max there won't be many of the mad inventor types about to keep things going. I reckon there'd be quite a few on here doing OK in their home made re-breathers and 4WD Cadillacs though. Still, the forum meet would be quite interesting and I guess it'd have to be a @northwest 's bunker.

I think it depends massively where you are in the country and the rather basic / fundamental task of getting to know your neighbours for example.
A couple of years back I offered to hp a mate out when he was struggling for dumper truck drivers. He sorted out the tickets etc., and I did a few months on and off driving for him filling in for people. Through him I met a neighbour of mine who is a shed builder and keeps pigs so now we get a nice supply of sausages and bacon. That same neighbour also welded up the steel frame for the office window / balcony.
Another neighbour is a carpenter and roofer and he mentioned my name as someone who does electronics to a job he was at. That chap phoned me up and asked me to have a look at his press brake he'd acquired. After spending a morning up there one of the outcomes was if I ever needed a tele handler or loader then to just give him a call. He had anything up to an 8m lift and 6t lift.
So just chatting with neighbours about things builds up some very useful contacts. But maybe that's just us down in rural West Wales. We're just useful and actually have a lot of industry in the area.

I fail to see how this is the case? I know it looks like that if you watch Benefit street. But it's simply not as easy as people make out. ( nor should it be).
Biggest problem is workers get no rights for the first two years. Also many are useless for the first few weeks and months. So it's a hard balancing act to be fair to everyone.
That takes some believing now though.... ( not you) but that they will get a better paid job eventually.I found that, when I left school and went into an apprenticeship some of my mates who went into unskilled/labouring jobs were earning twice as much as me, but 4 years later when I got my quals i was on twice as much as some of them
I know a few who have a degree but prefer to work a different trade to the area they studied.

The problem with comparing degrees and apprenticeships is that any business, organisation or trade only requires a small number of graduates to function, but they need a large number of skilled people. Having a degree guarantees nothing beyond an ability to learn (mostly) whereas having served a apprenticeship means that you have experience of functioning in the world beyond academia and also that you have practically applicable skills.
As soon as it became the case that there were more graduates each year than there were apprentices it created a situation were the skills of the 'qualified' youngsters entering the world of work were the complete inverse of what was required. Positions were created, along with layers management which hadn't previously existed. Inevitably that meant a reduction in productivity with the knock on of exporting work, which meant fewer qualified people were required and down the spiral goes.

Going back some years now, within 3 miles from me there were at least 6 companies that I can think of that had their own apprentice schools training up to 30 apprentices a year. All the companies have now gone & no training given, is it any surprise that there is a skill shortage now.

Try getting a real electrician these days! Loads about with a gold card but half of them are complete chancers.
Here's one that very nearly got me a few months back.
Yes this is 416 volts at a blue single phase coupler.
Yes there are 3 phases present.
No there was not an earth.
No you shouldn't really be terminating swa cable in a coupler either!
This was a length of bare stripped SWA laying across the top of the live unearthed transformer fed from the above coupler.
And here is the earth fault loop impedance reading at the end of that circuit of 133 ohms.
Should be much much lower!
All this was installed by a guy with a gold card and classed as an electrician!
He earns very similar money to me.
He now works in the office...
The Peter principle in effect!
Some people really shouldn't be allowed to do things other than push a broom about and there's already too many of them!

You're clearly too fussy, it's easy to pick fault in other people's work. It's not like it was dangerous.

My undergraduate was often 6 hours of labs a day, and my masters was full time labs for 2/3 with teaching labs for the rest. My doctorate was 3-4 years full time lab work.
It is very important to gain practical skills in my field along with knowledge, and all of that was done with degrees. Fair enough some aren't practical but a lot are
