That was my first thought, but I have never encountered one that is red and doesn't grow as a film. Google hasn't helped much either.

I remember a reference in a book (American mid west 1880ish) were they put salt and a piece of red flannel into the lamp's glass oil container.
Salt to stop it exploding and the red flannel to make a "purty color".

Could there be a residue in TYA's lamp base?

Why do I imagine it as being like this:-

If it's bacteria in suspension giving the red colour, then the oil would have a cloudy appearance, compared to fresh lamp oil. Try shining a bright torch (or laser) through the liquid, and see how much the beam picks the cloudiness up. A lot of living things glow in ultraviolet light. If you have a UV lamp or torch, try that, too. Lamp oil alone doesn't glow in UV, though the plastic bottles it's supplied in do, so pour some into a clear glass jar first.

Could it be a cousin to the diesel bug that is making your oil go red?

Alas not.
It is used as a oil lamp, every day.

the color change in the oil in the lamps, well I think its just wanting to be a lava lamp

Is it a bit chilly where it is? Perhaps it's temperature-related. My kitchen is at the bottom of the house and is quite cold some mornings. It can be as low as 13 degrees C and I notice the olive oil changes state at about that point.

thats why I now use rapeseed oil for cooking rather than olive oil, I couldn't get it out of the bottle
