New gaming monitor

Right I am at the stage where I need to work out what's affordable without getting too low a spec or too high to be able to use all the extra things. (If there are any. I have to be honest like sound systems I rarely am Nle to determine which is a better monitor or TV.

This is what I am looking at so far.

I should add its for my 9 year old grandson to use on his PC and PS5 in his bedroom.

Curved screens are very much a marmite thing - I would recommend going somewhere and seeing one in person to decide if you/he can get on with it or not.
75Hz and 4ms on a VA panel is not really gaming - but a lot will depend on the graphics card he has.

im actually still using my 12 year old + lcd screen though i dont use the sound as its tinny

instead i have a 6.1 surround system on it which means it becomes a multi media sound system as well

the bass is loverly and i can kick it out

screen i dont believe its good to have too many pixils as your eyes can only see enough and i dont get headaches as much as many others i also dont suffer mygraines either

ive aslo darkened my screen as the brightness bugs my eyes always has done

i dont see the point in a curved screen either

99% of the population wouldn't notice.
A few decades ago 60fps was the sweet spot people were chasing.

Couldn't go back now.

A few decades ago 60fps was the sweet spot people were chasing.

I thought the same until I went 165, I was very sceptical it would make any perceivable difference.
It isn't that I was that aware of a significant change when I upgraded, but more when trying to go back to using 60 after using higher refresh rate for a bit - it is just not happening, to the point I can tell if the driver has defaulted back.

IPS screens always had better colours and are fast, and good enough for gaming so that is what Id recommend. Generally cost a little more where as the gaming panels were cheaper.

Tbfh I prefer VA's for colours and contrast over IPS these days, even if they're a little slower.

Make sure it has the correct input connectors so both can be plugged in at the same time. That monitor has d-sub, hdmi and display port. The PS5 will take up the HDMI leaving d-sub and display port for the PC. What outputs does the PC have?

For 1080p I personally think a 27" screen is the maximum before the individual pixels get a bit too big, there are plenty of 1440p 31.5" to choose from.

yep. i went to 144hz, can't go back to 60hz now

My lad runs a couple of Dell, G-Sync, 144Hz monitors is all I know.

Yep, people don't realise the difference it makes even to desktop tasks and responsiveness - there's a reason all our phones are getting fitted with 90hz or 120hz screens these days, because they feel so much more fluid, same reason VR headsets tend to be 90/120/144hz

This is my setup (mostly paid for by work)

It's amazing how much of a difference it makes to be able to just swivel your head left or right and the slight curve makes up for it. This is a 34" curved screen and I feel far more comfortable with it compared to my previous 31" flat screen.
