pipe vice clean up

I am about to take apart and stick the new to me vice in some vinegar to remove the rust.
Question is wht to do with it after, paint it or oil it or something else.
I dont really want to paint it some kind of oil or wax would look nicer I think.

I have sweated over one of those and a Riged thread cutter, do you have the stand with the drop down steady

Blue is normal.
But they do come in red as well.

The jaws are still avaialble from Record, if you need them.

Your memory is better than mine Vark, had a feeling there were red ones but thought I was confusing it with the Rgid colour

You would not paint it would you TYA, what would be your treatment, beeswax mix?

I do paint some. If the finish is rough, eg rour castings. I will paint. But leave things like the jaws, threads, fixings and handle in the bare. They get finished in clear coat. Then when the paint is hard a good bee's wax covering.

If the casting is smooth, or as smooth as you van expect I finish with a bee's wax and linseed oil mix.

I warm the metal and apply the mix in a semi fluid state. The heat in the meatl will open it up and allow the mix to seep in.
Then after 4 coats I let it cool and buff up.

The fixings bolts for the jaws can be metric or imperial. Double check.
If you fix the wrong ones, they are loose and wobble or can bind up.

They could well be. Ones I have come accross. It is a old bolt that was replaced in the vice life.

I might have to swap the vinegar for citric acid it seams slow in the hot vinegar.

so I have added salt everything is better with salt right!
I will leave it over night now and check on it tomorrow.
