The thing with these turn crap into gold shows. Is they don't factor in their time. If they did most of them would be at a loss. I've watched a few of them. At the end I just shake my head.

There's a guy who wants one of my cars and I thought about selling it so told him how much I wanted which was a lot less than I'd spent and no one penny for my time and he offered half and said you never get back what you put into them. He was told he will never get another chance from me. Dreamer. Very few folk make money doing up classics and selling them, especially if they are doing a proper job.

Brewer makes his money when he buys the car. He nearly always gets them under market value to start with. I like the new guy Elvis much more than Ant Ansted though. He came across as very arrogant.

If you decide to let go of a car which you have cherished, finding somebody worthy of having it can be a nightmare. I sold a car about 4 years ago and have regretted it ever since. I'm now waiting till the end of January, when most people will be skint, and then I'm going to try and buy it back; maybe extreme measures will be needed.

I really liked Ant Ansted; thought he was by the far the most skilled and competent of all the minions.

That just shows we are all different, I always thought Ant was pretty good, I like the way he explained stuff and I never once thought he was arrogant. I liked Ed China in the early days but he turned into a bit of clown in the later series. One thing I liked about Ant is he wouldn't just leave something looking ratty whereas Ed would would make a load of stuff nice then bolt some rusty old bits back on but that harks back the original roots of show.

I haven't seen the new one but I've seen the trade up series that Mike did with Elvis and he seems a top bloke

Mike Brewer takes a lot flack but I've seen stuff where people have questioned a timeline on Wheeler Dealers and he explained it all honestly. I saw him at the Classic Car Show at the NEC, he had just finished some filming but still took the time to talk my kids.

Ask him then to explain where his morals are, in advertising snake oil "fuel catalysts". I can't believe that he is so stupid that he actually thinks that they are anything else.

you can make money. but it ends up you're just making a second wage out of it tbh. it's not really profit. to the time you're putting time into it.
sometimes it a gamble. cheap and farked... but how farked is it. is it a new belt or are you putting valves and pistons in it.
i took a chance on an interference engine recently. Luckily it was just two valves (wasn't lucky enough just to be a belt). but it was cheap enough that to strip the spares it would break over even. it would of made the initial outlay back or just under on the roof alone.

I didnt like Ant. It was like a dull school teacher explaining things that you already knew. Ed was a lot better. Both do some decent work to be fair.

I hate to admit it but Mike gas grown on me as the years have gone on.

Prefer car SOS most of the time though. Fuzz is a decent mechanic and a nice chap.

Didn't he design and build his own single seater car? Used an Alfa boxer engine iirc. It was a good watch.

He used an MG TD chassis. I watched it but thought it B awful to be honest. His workmanship was great but the way the production team had put the programe together was crap, half the interesting bits of the build missed and a long piece of film about the team going for a meal? A good third of the footage wasn't about the build at all. He also got to seeming a bit childish as Wheelers went on. The refusal to even ride in the TR7 they had just fixed is a case in point.

Depends on the 'case' chosen. I recall one where the subject was a surgeon (?) with something exotic - I was sure he could have afforded a professional restoration had he wanted.

I still like Car SOS, despite the stupid Tim Shaw blagging free stuff bits. Most of these shows suffer from having manufactured drama rather than just being about the resto unfortunately. I suppose it widens the appeal. Currently rewatching Flipping Cars, with the 2 blokes who look like 'Guess Who?' characters. They never make much money.

It kinda brings it home a bit. We have a 1974 magnum my dad bought new. Off the road since 1990. I have collected parts for a resto. Dad died before i started. The way time is flying i may never get to it. I actually considered contacting car sos a few years ago but always felt someone else kinda deserved it more and i really want to do it myself!
