Its gone up a bit since then. 10k for the 850 mini then I think £1200 ish for the stuff they did declare they’d spent on it (I reckon more like 2k having done one )

The thing with these turn crap into gold shows. Is they don't factor in their time. If they did most of them would be at a loss. I've watched a few of them. At the end I just shake my head.

It's coronation street for men. It doesn't really bear any similarity with the real world of buying and selling cars. They'll do a load of weird jobs involving specialist companies and leave out all the normal things like routine servicing and repairs.

Sadly, I quite often find that there's nothing better in the TV schedule, so end up watching them. I also reckon that there are assistants off-screen who have done a lot of research on the cars before any work starts, so they already know the typical problems on a particular car and how to deal with them. So even if they quote 30 hours hands-on work at the end of the prog, there could have been another 30 hours or research.

They never buy tyres though - every heap I’ve done up needed tyres, and brake pipes, and....

Many assistants, having supplied parts for a few of the cars on these shows I have found a lot of the assistants to be horrible arrogant people that want everything now and are amazed that you cant get XYZ for whatever model they are working on

Pretty much every time Wheeler Dealers is mentioned this subject comes up.

When the show first started it was showing that someone who liked tinkering and had some skills could buy something that needed some love, fix it up and add some value in their spare time for fun, maybe drive for a bit make a bit of cash. It wasn't about someone doing it as a full time job in a flash workshop and team of people around them.

If they made £20K on each car it wouldn't come close to covering the production costs of an episode.

surely the monies being made by selling the program and repeats ? the cars are bought with a buyer already booked in I think you will find,so a buyer wants a xyz with this and that spec and budget xxx, then a car is sourced, work done , and its sold, I used a transport guy who hauled for the program , he wouldnt admit /say anything as it was in his contract , except the whole crew except one camerman werent going to do the american series..
its pretty much the same with hammonds stuff , all talked out before the start , series sold now lets make the drama unfold , the bumbbling buffoon act ..and lets face it , its an act , as he has more monies than we could shake a stick at so he is not the fool he pretends to be.

The minute you start seeing these programs as anything other than whiling away an hour to relax and possibly see some interesting process you have to stop watching them.

Wheeler Dealers almost looks real compared stuff Henry Cole does on Shed and Buried.

I've just seen this programme; not at all impressed.
One curious thing though - the location where they have the garage - anyone know if it's Wescott Venture Park, about 7 miles west of Aylesbury on the A41 ? Started out life as a RAF base in WWII. I used to work there in the days when it was a Royal Ordnance site.
