brazing rods what ones and flux ?

I'd try and use soft solder instead of trying to braze of silver solder that. why do you want to braze it?

Yes. soft solder with a big soldering iron not a direct flame, and Bakers soldering fluid on the steel or it won't tin. Not too critical on top of a Valor can but, on petrol tanks, they would have floated a penny on top of the solder, stronger and less likely to leak than solder on its own.

ive not got a big solder iron so thats why i was looking at brasing

If you go anywhere near it with a flame, you need to be absolutely sure, certain, positive there is no trace of petrol or vapour left in the tin or it will go bang.

its been cleaned a few times and ive been near it with a blow lamp already i did try plumbing solder but wout not take {i was not suprised but hay ho

take the handle completely off scrupulously clean it. flux and tin it the same with the can lid . dab some flux on and sit the handle on top heat with the blowtorch till the solder melts and feed a bit more solder in job done

its not the handle that need to be attached its a hole after its been hit i would say

just scrupulously clean it then tin it either using a large soldering iron or can be done with a blowlamp. it should fill without a patch if your handy with the torch

I would knock that dent up first.. It would make a solder repair a lot easier. Make A "J" shape from piece of 12mm or 1/2" round bar, put the upright of the "J" in a vice, then pass it through the spout hole and use it as a dolly whilst tapping at the dent with a hammer.
