You'll heed to dismantle it and to either the run or start winding. I'm guessing that the object behind the fan is the centrifugal switch which disconnects the capacitor once the motor has started turning. But it's unusual to see it from the outside of the motor.

I don't know what to do here. Swapping the yellow wires is pointless.

That won't make any difference, it's a.c. how is the capacitor connected? I see there are two spade ends on it.

Exactly.

I think I've to reverse the thin copper at the cloth junctions.

Reverse either the thick copper wires or the thin copper wires. Do not swap both!

If you swap both pairs you end up back where you started.

Running well now. And in the right direction. I'm going to leave it running for a half hour and see if the motor is any good. I'm amazed by the damage on the motor, did it leave the factory like that?

It's dead Jim. Dead as we know it.

How it arrived. The lady attached brought those bits, coffee, beer and rum.
This was her departed brothers engine. A family friend "tried to repair/restore it.

My brief was to save as much as posible, please onlt do the minium to bring it back to life.


The plate was bent, someone tried to straighten it. The cracks are not visable. But it sat 9mm out of true.

Paint striped, a friend brazzed the splits, after we got it true. A hole was drilled at both ends of the cracks, before it was TIG Brazzed.

It still distorted.

But, a bit of panel beating.

Only one hole was mis-alligned. But the rest are good. We left that fixing out.

The end caps were dented. So they were removed, made good. A new set of Boss for the leval and safety vale fitted.

After the first steam and we had zero issues. Just more dirt to clean.

Turntable for putting up poles arrived inwith snapped pin and butchered sleeve . Plasma out the sleeve was handiest option . Have since plated it up and fitted new sleeve . Needed a 41.5 pin in sleeve with a reduced end for ram but the guy turning it went mad on it and made a full 39mm pin so is sloppy now will do to get them running Monday and do a new pin for them again . Finished it yesterday will get pics Monday before is collected

My Hodge Clemco blasting pot has been giving me grief recently with the remote valve not working. I replaced it and although it now basically works the 'pop up valve' doesn't always seat properly. This is a large rubber mushroom that is pressed upwards by an air blast into an equally large rubber ring in the top of the pot. Once there pressure in the pot holds it in place. Now I've replaced the mushroom and the ring but occasionally the mushroom hits the ring slightly skewed and doesn't seal.

The mushroom slides on a vertical pipe inside the pot and it's height setting seems critical. At the moment I've set it using overmuch PTFE tape to give me adjustment before the threads bottom out and it's working but it seems as little as 1/4" change makes all the difference. @bR39Da has the same pot and is kindly making a comparative measurement for me but in the mean time I am by no means convinced that the 1-1/4" BSP elbow into which the vertical pipe sits is either concentric with the rubber ring / hole in the top or truly vertical. As it's inside the pot it's not the easiest thing in the world to measure . . . so . .

Today I made a dummy 1-1/4" BSP plug with a dead straight and concentric 7/16" steel rod screwed in that is long enough to extend out of the pot when the popup valve is removed. I'd hoped to use a combination of standard plumbing fittings from my odds & sods box rather than go to the trouble of single point threading this relatively large thread but was surprised how rough and none concentric their threading is - hopeless for measurements


. . . next job . . remove the mud hole cover AGAIN and faff about inside to install my 'gauge' but that's for another day.

I "fixed" a S38 throttle bodies. Restored from the ground up. Took more than a day but what the heck I've got nobody else to show it to!
