@25.4_mechanic ,interesting mc ,is that a hijab type crane boom slung over the back,tell me more about it.
The thing is called GMG_2,5 for "off-road multi-purpose equipment" ("Geländegängiges Mehrzweck Gerät 2,5t") with 2.5t lifting capacity (in reality much more).
The attempt of the GDR at the very end to defeat the class enemy on the logistics side (and probably also to create an export hit within the Warsaw Pact).
They put everything that the GDR's planned economy had to offer in terms of vehicle and computer technology into this part.
The requirements-specification-book was huge, the thing became much too complicated, it can do everything except to fly and is also fast .....
Rumor has it that after the fall of the Berlin Wall, U.S. military specialists tracked down the 50 or 80 best examples, collected them and shipped them to the U.S. because there was nothing comparable in the West.
Telescopic loaders are better today if they have all-wheel steering, but still don't run 70km/h and can do wading ...
Mine is number 78 from 1988.
This thing is actually pretty interesting, it would warrant its own thread .... but do I want to do the work!!?
