Getting my gear cutters organised - anyone else.

So after a nudge from @Pete. to share/swap cutters to make up whole range, I decided I needed to organise a cupboard.
So now I have them in neat stacks, just over 200 in all, but have run out of dowel (well Mrs mm’s floor brush handle..).
Once @Pete. and I have sorted ourselves I will be swapping as many as I can, maybe selling some. If there is any interest here pm me.

It make sense to me that if we get a register going of who has what sizes, people who have doubles can offer them as swaps or trades and, in a pinch if someone needs to cut a gear but don't have that cutter then perhaps a loan could be arranged, at the complete discretion of the owner of course.
Minimutly has a couple of hundred, I have 60-odd but it takes several hundred to make up a comprehensive set.

My thoughts are to swap single extra ones, offer for sale any multiples. So if I have two, swap one for another to fill the gap, if I have three, do likewise but offer the third for sale, to be used not end up on eBay...
Most of mine are 14.5 deg, but I have a number of 20s. Not made any inroads into the mod cutters, but they are 30 maximum in number. The 8/10dp cutters really throw me - which stack should they be in??

They are cutters for stub tooth gears so should be in a stack all of thier own, preferably sprayed red so they do not get mixed up with either 8 or 10.

so something like this would be better than making a frame in drawers and at least you could word them

Makes sense - they don't match up with 8 or 10 dp, and one of them has "stub" on it.
Poo, will have to root them out then. Should have built a bigger cupboard, or rather not cut the one I have in half...

Ow poo again - having read the link - thanks @Agroshield , it reads like a stub, or 8/10 dp is a 20degree - so are all 20 degree cutters stub tooth?
The more I read the less it seems I know...

Absolutely not. Stub tooth is quite unusual.

In the very early days, standard tooth 14 1/2 degree PA were the only ones about.

Today, 20 degree standard tooth is most common.

In general, a 20 degree PA will have a 'stubbier' looking tooth than a 14 1/2 degree PA. The way I read the Fellows stuff is that they developed the stub tooth system for demanding applications like automobile gearboxes as it was stronger and they also found out that changing the PA as well as the tooth form made it stronger still.

Hmmm, another new term "stub ratio" is this yours or an actual description? Has it any basis in the maths of the gears?
Of course you can have any pa, but of course within the limits of square and pointy gears, ignoring power transfer efficiency for now.
One thing I've noted, with practice, and with enough cutters of similar dp, you can recognise when you've got a rogue one with a faded number. I still need to practice cutting some more though, just so short of workshop time these days.
