Took a neighbour some runner beans. He's from ZA and has just bought a smoker. Though I didn't expect anything in return he gave me some biltong he's just done.

Is it beef? I thought about making it but my nan (From SA) insists it has to be "Springbok", which I'd never even heard of as an animal, let alone as meat. I'd still like to have a go one day.

This is beef. A ZA mate introduced me to biltong made from kudu which it really good.

Before I had a welder, and as an impovrished student, I may have used gutter sealant on the odd hole . . .

In early 70's a guy I worked with bought a car ,2'nd hand , and was chuffed with his purchase until we noticed a small hole in the bodywork . On investigation ,which entailed taking the p**s and making the hole bigger we retrieved a couple of sheets of newspaper acting as filler and covered with the inevitable G/F . On reading the news paper it was noticed that it was dated the previous week. It took all afternoon to stop laughing. Sympathy ? Not in those days .

I watched a lad sell a bloke a MK3 Cortina. First he waxed it, then washed it so it was covered in droplets. He then sat against the rusty o/s wing and scuttle and told the bloke feel free to look around. Buyer did the full circle and the guy I knew opened the driver's door for him to get in. All without the chap clocking the rust.

I've mentioned it here before, but the car that required me to by the SIP Migmate I still have 20 yrs later, was "repaired" with metal, that once the rear N/S suspension turret detached from the rest of the car on the way back from London, had words such as "Castrol", "GTX" and "Duckhams" on under the 1/4" thick underseal . . . until then I never knew they made repair panels . . .

My first car was a mini clubman 1000. I put an 1100 engine in it and a new rear subframe but the bodywork was a bit bubbly around the extended arches. If you went through a puddle, you would get wet knees. Once I had 6 months driving after my test under my belt, I sold it for 50 quid more than the 300 it cost me.

As it was autumn and wet I had to fix the wet knee problem before I sold it. I stuck a bit of roofing felt under the wheel arch with underseal and give it a generous covering. It's still probably going strong today

Do it, its dead easy. Made some a while ago with little more than a cardboard box and old pc fan.

I'd deliberately drive through puddles. It'd literally blast up through the passenger footwell. "Oh dear, we'd best get you home and out of that wet skirt..."

My first car. Yes I've still got it. More the field it's sat in now than car.

It has been known for an impov student to glue on a layer of Formica over a chassis hole with Isopon and the excess squidged out the side was weldly-looking after the whole repair was underbody schutzed.
Not me. I was gobsmacked at the ingenuity and sheer foolishness.

Added a couple of new old stock Whitehouse tin smith’s hammers to the collection. They’re both the same head so one will stay flat and the other will get a radiused grind.

Weird how I watched "I dream of wires" on Sky Arts the other week, and all of a sudden various places have stuff about old synthesisers. I expect that kind of thing from Facebook, but not on forums. Interesting documentary, if you haven't seen it. Or even if you have.

I may have seen it. Il have a rewatch if I have. If not. Thanks for the heads up. My 10yo had a go and managed to patch it up from empty. Had to prompt him to think Laterally but he's got it sussed now.
Il get him patching it with my other gear next.

Home ed so I suppose I can call it music and tech lessons.
