I went into the St Neots branch of Screfix at lunchtime today. No catalogues any more no order slips or pencils just two tablet thingys. Apparently you now scrol through the categories find what you want and load into a file which I is transfered to the computer at the sales point. Luckily I only wanted one item but had neglected to note the part code. Fortunately there was no one else in the shop so the staff sorted things.. I dread to think what it’s going to be. like when the shops busy with only two tablet thingys. However I was assured you could stiil bring In a greasy scrap of paper with the number on. I may also have misunderstood the bit about transferring the order from them tablet to the computer. I’d glazed over by then. Apparently according to the staff it’s to save the planet. They are also taking “ feedback” from customers about the reaction to the change. I gave them my reaction which was negative. I think I’ll just do “click and collect” in future.

I USE THE APP ITS GREAT AND WHEN THEY PING YOU TO SAY THE ORDER IS READY OFF YOU GO LOG IN ON ARRIVAL IN THE CAR PARK USING THE APP, BY THE TIME YOU GET IN THE BRANCH STUFF IS READY ON THE COUNTER, WORKS A TREAT.

if I'm in the shop and haven't already ordered stuff online / via the app I which out my phone and google "thing I want, screwfix" get the numbers and just tell the person behind the desk

I liked the catalogue. The websearch needs you to know the exact name of what you want.

I search stuff like "22mm T piece" "concrete screw" "ladders" etc. etc.

guess not much good if you're looking for something very specific


google search is better than the screwfix one

This a different point, What I’m talking about is dropping in without pre-ordering, which as I said in my initial post I usually do.

That’s fair enough, I’m only reporting what happened in St Neots. I don’t think I’ll be driving to Aberdeen,

Or if Aberdeen had some left and once they were gone that’s it?

That’s fair enough, I’m only reporting what happened in St Neots. I don’t think I’ll be driving to Aberdeen,

If you do, make sure you take sandwiches and a flask. That way you can avoid service station sandwiches and maccy d's.

Thinking about it you'd better take 2 sandwiches as you'll need one for the way home too.

They use red pens in our toolstation. Lol

I can understand the reasoning, and I am happy ordering online or arranging click & collect but for me I've never found any website that even comes close to a catalogue when it comes to browsing.
All is fine if you know what you want & roughly what they stock but often I find myself trying to find something from a company such as CPC Farnell when I may not know exactly what it is called or in which section and struggling much more on a website than I would flicking through a catalogue.
