Vans for towing ???

I am wanting a tow vehicle next year and was thinking on a Shogun again but as i have many i fancy a change, so looked at Discovery 2.7 TDV6 but faults worry me with Landrover more the Range Rivers.

Now i like to go away for a fishing session and over nighting and was thinking maybe a van so i convert to a camper, i have a Jumbo transit and was good but bit big and not the tow capacity i need of 3500kg.

What are vans like for towing with , maybe an Iveco or Transit MWB size. Iveco i like. early 2000`s maybe if i can find one with the tow capacity i need.

4WD would be great but few about in my budget or max £3k.

Trouble is with a van you are going to be a target of every scroat and all the council officials, especially those going after the van-life mob at the moment.

Probably look for a rwd short wheel base transit.
Yes you will be welding it but it got to be a reason rac and aa used to use them.

looks like i read things wrong while researching. i cant afford a 2014 Transit, only these can tow 3500kg, and an Iveco only 5tonners can tow 3500kg.

Thing is, i am Type 1 diabetic and many moons ago DVLA removed C1 of Type 1 diabetics driving licences. I have been waiting now for 6 months to get my revoked naff licence back. Maybe i could go for the C1 so i can get a Iveco 5 tonner. just a medical every year to keep it.

An empty iveco will be hopping all over the place.
My '13 transit is certainly poky enough to tow, fwd though, so has a tendency to spin its wheels.

this will be fittied out though as a camper and boat stuff so loaded well.

My new Peugeot expert.
Swb has a 3100kg dgw with a 5000 max train weight.
It would only weight 1800kg unlaided. But I would not want to tow 3200kg behind it.

There are vans out there which can do similar weights it's just what you actually plan on towing.

true that. in handling all around aswell then. half loaded vans, well the Transits, Iveco`s and Fiat`s have.

Ill see what i can get in an Iveco Daily, and sort my licence out.

Bleeding daft, this licence lark. i used to deliver LPG and welding gas in a 3.5 tonner. i went for a job delivering fruit and veg and as the van was a 4.1 tonner i needed to get my C1 back, So find to carry 1.5 ton of gas but not a bit more in fruit and veg. yes weight but dangers, cant see a tomato blowing up. And i can still have a MAM of around 6 ton on no C1 licence.

A van is ok for towing but once the boat is in the water would you really want to smoke about in a van? A 4wd car/pickup would be a better all rounder unless the van had another use.

@W.olly. One Man And His Boat used a truck with a hiab for his similar size / weight boat. Lifted it straight into harbour. Could save on marina lifting costs ( usually yachty prices). Could save all the faff of ‘are my bearings okay’ and stress of towing a huge lump, storage of trailer etc etc. Plus something nice to hack about in as your daily instead of a van.
