Pack out vs Peli style case

Has anyone been using the Milwaukee pack out as a mobile tool storage was looking at the various cases etc. can anyone one compare them to a peli style case. Wanting some tough water proof storage for a travelling tool kit. Occasionally being taken on public transport.

Advantage I can see of Milwaukee is the system. Advantage of peli is range of shapes and sizes. Have used the dewalt tstack and they just aren’t tough enough. Wanting something a tad smaller than my portable tool chest.

Anyone got any opinions.

Ive got one of the pack out boxes - at least im pretty sure thats what it is. Clips at the front to open it, and clips on the side to secure it to other cases...

Its almost incomparable in strength to a peli case. In price also, but then second hand peli cases are plentiful enough.

If you care about the contents in a rough environment, get the peli case. If youre a tool fan boy, get the milwaukee.



note - i have M18 tools, so i have nothing against milwaukee at all, far from it. the packout that i have came with one of my tools, and its ok, but its no peli case - nowhere even close.

They are just the standard hard cases.

Packout is much tougher and heavier too but they have carts etc. I have quite a few for all my power tools, some with the foam cutouts and others just the tools lose in the box. They usually come with trays too, some more useful than others for keeping bits in.
Full size boxes come in a variety of heights for most tools as well half width boxes too. The three piece kit with wheel cart box is what I’ve started with but find the wheeled cart box a bit useless for tool storage as the wheels and moulding intrude in the storage area.

Cheers will see if I can get a look at them. Take it the drawers aren’t waterproof. Ever used the drawer units how have they held up if you have.

Avoid trend stuff. Far too flimsy and brakeable.

Peli case (genuine) are brilliant but can be awkward to find tools unless make lift out trays/bits and pieces.

Keep hearing good things about packout and wish I bought that rather than the trend stuff

They have weather seals. Not submersible but not gonna be bothered by a rain storm.

I've only got big boxes both 1 and 2 and they last very well. Strong enough to stand on or use as benches. Screwfix stock them so easy to cadge a look see. Invest in a batter trolley without a box attached if you go that route. Box with wheels is ok but wish I'd gone the other way

The Packout drawers are really good. Short supplies when they first came out meant high prices but they’re more reasonable now.

I have two of the three case packout sets, pretty much get all the tools I need on site in them. Take one if I’m just assembling steelwork, both if I’m drilling and fixing in concrete. They are just tough and do the job. I like the fact that if I am staying away I can wheel the lot into hotel easily. There were some deals to be had a couple of years ago even screwfix had the set at a very good price. For fixings I really rate the Stanley fatmax organisers very strong, got lots of those when screwfix were doing them for £12! Don’t rate the tstack.,not much point in going cheap if they only last a year….

No pack out but I have hand carried the wheelie pelican to a ship and the excess baggage was mental. It was like 20kg empty or something stupid if I remember right.

What about teng? They do a roll on for about £200 (macgregors) and as usual teng the boxes and tray etc all nest inside it. It comes with a assortment tray thing.

Don’t rate the tstack.,not much point in going cheap if they only last a year….

My oldest tough system is 7 years old and going strong. My oldest tstack is about the same.

The tstacks when used as intended work well. There just decent individual tool boxes. Great in a van. The toughsystem is a fairer comparison.

Systainers are poor imho. Don't rate them get very brittle in the winter months.

Much are you going to lug about?

Not much just a basic tool kit gonna keep in the car and ready to go. Also have gone on a bit of an Adam savage boxes are where tools go to die/organisation phase. All my tools are in boxes and I forget what I have, how many where it is etc etc.

What something that will sit open on a tool cart or work bench giving easy access to my tools and able to see what’s where at a glance and if somethings missing.

Trying to build a bit of a system of grab bags and boxes. So there will be a small bag/pouch I take to work always and that my ship 90% bag, then im thinking a back pack and a box, and that should cover 90% of the jobs I come across when I’m home mechanically for bits of side work and mates etc. These 3 will always go with me when I’m home if I’m out for a job or just away for a bit seeing mates etc often do them a favour in exchange for free accommodation. In part its an attempt to curtail my tool buying habits where I end up out and needing a tool I have forgotten that I have enough of at home, this is to help stop this happening.

Also thinking of doing a bit of travelling for work doing agency work just now and going few places and doing a few different things. So trying to build a flight friendly tool kit.

Drop a systainer when it's frosty and they crack. Only time I've broken a tstack is using it as a hop up to caulk a ceiling. They live in the rear of the van that's not heated through the winter. The bottom stacking brackets are the weak point. I've broken 2 of these over the years. The yellow bits are replaceable.

Aye. I wanted to set up my core tools in a portable set. That's why I ended up with the toughsystem. I had a couple of the older ones I'd just used as storage in the van so knew they were up to it.
