that would take an hour to fabricate and fit a simple guard on that. Why wouldn't you?When I worked at Reynolds Boughton, a young chap mangled the end of his foot with a 9" angle grinder. It had a guard on and he was wearing steel toe capped boots. He dropped the grinder and it found the soft bit between the toe cap and the double stitched upper. He had been trained in its use and everything was done by the book. It just goes to show how dangerous they are. I think that as with most things in our field, you need to be on your game and respect the equipment you are using. I personally do not remove angle grinder guards but none of my mills or lathes are guarded. Neither is the pillar drill or my home made polishing off hand grinder with wire wheel on it. I do use a full face shield when using that though! In the workplace, if it came with a guard then it stays on no matter what, if it is in the way, use another piece of equipment.
