Raptor day.

So, all the drawers were sanded and coated with a 2K epoxy primer. Two types of Raptor polyurea coating were tested. Spray-packed on the top of the chest and applied with a roller on the shelves (package in a bottle). I covered half of one shelf with a homemade compound (adding 10% UHMWPE-g graft powder). After the final polymerization, I expect the effect of "sandpaper" and increased abrasive resistance. 2K polyurea itself is strong, we will strengthen it with a polymer from another opera. The spray is very foamy, and the can was barely enough for an area of less than 0.8 m2. I will repaint and increase the thickness of the layer, using a roller, with a Raptor for manual application.

3 coats later. Its taken some covering. Perhaps I won’t leave it 10 years next time. “Just” the walls now. The missus can so them as I don’t have the patience for cutting in

Today I mostly poked an exhaust through a shed.

Made it up from 316, plasma’d the plate, tigged up a storm then acid passivited it.

Went to site to fit it.

Made the brackets recently and found a 9ft x 1ft × 1" recycled plank which cleaned up nicely and a decent paint job with oil based made it all good, the bookends are fixed but add to the look, now all fitted in places with raw bolts so should be good for 250 kgs

Wanting to put some render on a strip of wall in the garage I needed it. It may well be in there but it's in pitch darkness at the mo as all the power's disconnected. I need to render so I can put the light switch back on in its new position...then I can hopefully find my proper one.

The chest/workbench is 99% complete. Everything is painted, it remains to collect. Shabby wooden triangles with holes (for conical instruments) need renovation. Fabric, such as "artificial grass" I have not yet come across in stores to replace it. Or I'll make new ones if a good piece of glued wood (laminate, like marine plywood) comes along. The old design is not an icon. The roughness of the Raptor coating with the addition of UHMWPE-g turned out to be quite good to the touch. I'll see what strength the polyurethane coating will have after 7 days. I used to mix up and the Raptor is not polyurea, which is a pity.

In my opinion, the base is ready.


A place to store junk, suitable for work. I did not straighten a small dent on the threshold (double closed box in section), I will leave scars as a keepsake. For the same reason, I did not use putty. Let the next owner mess with it.

The padlock is lost, oh well. Turning a beautiful cork on a lathe... someday, oh yes!

Sausages of choice
Sausages in ovenproof dish drizzle of oil into oven for 15 mins.
Mix eggs and flour add milk slowly beat smooth
Add to sausages and give it an hour

...a faux pas. Needed to render the narrowest strip in the garage. Won't be plastered, probably will paint it though. I'd run out of my normal admix. However...there's been a 5L container of this stuff kicking around here either since I bought the place or that I scored from work. It still sounded liquid when I shook it...

Mixed it up 1:1. Used it to wet a mortar mix 3:1:1, builders, opc, lime.

The stuff smelt like the worst wee ever and working time wasn't good. It's cracked. Probably didn't help the cement was old.

Only used half the dry mix so I've bagged the rest and will mix up tomorrow and try and get an acceptable top coat.

well yesterday I made a start on the garage roof , I always new it was the garage that jack built but I wasn't prepared for exactly how crap jack was it'a about 40mm out of square and 30 mil ish wider in the middle than the two ends . I now need another1/2 sheet of ply because of the cuts . In between the wind and the rain I've stripped it all and plyed all bar the last bit . tomorrow facias and drip . they'll be fun as all the timber to the perimeter have been cut sort ! Instead of doing the roof level and then firings jack built the roof on a slope with a 90 mil drop end to end it'been a ba****d

The board was that far gone once I'd pulled the felt a handful at a time into bags . I bet the biggest piece that came of was no more than 18" x 18"
