7 quid angle grinders

My first angle grinder was a 500w challenge it’s done a fair bit over the years.

I still have it, it’s small and light for tight spots.

With a Dimond disc it would make a good tungsten grinder

I have a Halfords one that my dad got me the vibration is a hell of a lot compared to my dewalt and Bosch’s alternatives

I have a 4 1/2" grinder bought from Makro years back when they were pedalling Nu-Tool I think it was. This one however is labelled "BUDGET". Vibrates a good bit more than my favourite Bosch but tbh it's done loads of graft.

The blade stop button thing failed years ago but it keeps going.

I was given a 9” Nu-Tool angle grinder, what a frightening thing, the torque reversal on start up nearly took it out of your hands. It exploded with a flash & the magic smoke, I can sleep again now

Mate no upset here As ive said, there is no constructive criticism its just smart arsed comments thats no help to anyone. However it makes no difference to me one way or the other i'm not endorsing the product. Just passing on what ive found.

I had a couple of cheap £6.99 angle grinders from Aldi years ago and they were used for everything including tile cutting and pointing and they lasted 6 years then both expired within 2 weeks of each other (I had the receipts to verify it) Good value I thought.

Many years ago our local supermarket had €10 grinders with a three year guarantee, after I killed 3 in 4 days they removed them from the shelves, having reimbursed me.

When I lived in France it was a shock to find shops actually sold full on junk that didn’t work at all

BandQ had a promotion 3 for 2 on macallister stuff so bought 3 angle grinders for £30 Inc. vat so just over £8 each. 2 year warranty. Light buffing polishing duties but utter rubbish all produced the magic smoke shortly afterwards, bq wiped their hands of the warranty work saying I had to contact the manufacturer but they wouldn't answer the phone.
Never again!

However replaced with Aldi variable speed grinders, a bit dearer heavier workload and been spot on so far.

Always have one with a slitting disc, one with a flap and an older one with a grinding stone

Saves time changing them

I've had a b&q mcallister grinder for several years. It's been perfect for general diy use. Can't fault it for the price. Maybe wouldn't cut it as a use every day tool.

My first introduction to a multitool was a Mac Allister. My mate brought it round and given he's a cabinet maker / chippy I thought he'd gone mad and to the dark side of all things that are bodged. He's tight too and an old git so he bought one with his B&Q discount.

I bought a mains Draper that's OK but a non standard blade fitting. Next came a mains Parkside. It's alright, had to fix a sticky / slipped switch. That was my go to. Next up a sub £20, 18V Duratool converted to Makita with 3D adapter - just 'cos we we could. Finally have an 18V Fakita with quick change holder etc.

I found the other day the remains of a Ferrex, 20V quick change one. We did an I'll fated Makita conversion and I think I got the polarity wrong and it let out magic smoke. Someone on here was I think interested in it for spares for theirs?
