Help needed it welwyn garden city

today i finished the rear wing and inner sill grinded the welds down a bit and skimmed with filler and primmered.

Will sand a bit more tommorrow but was knackered to called it a day.

One question how many hours should i get out of a size Y gas bottle?
its just its down half way already I have done a lots of welding over the last few days and all spot welding at 10LPM .

You dont need anything like 10LPM gas flow, and will probably find it will weld fine using half that.

Also if your machine has the guts to run .8mm wire, then you will find that using this makes all car welding a great deal easier.

Only problem with this is though that nearly all the cheap Chinese MIG sets have aluminuim windings, and most dont seem to have the power to run .8mm wire sensibly.

He's welding outside so will need to have a decent flow of gas to ensure the weld pool is covered

I find anything below 2mm easier with 0.6mm wire. It reduces the current allowing more control. Does take a bit of getting used to at first if you are used to 0.8mm, but you can do a lot more with it.

As im outside to get decent welds i need the LPM between 8 and 10 depending on the wind.

Im using 0.8 wire and the machine sure aint no cheap inport.

Has a range from 25amps to 200amps and its a monster

when i get the van back on the road and can start earning some money with it
im hoping to buy some 0.6 some more o.8 and maybe a 1.0 the machine can take up to 1.2mm

Im finding it very good at the moment with the plate i am using but would like to try the diffrent wire thicknesses.

And i also found 3 diffrent size gas cylinders yesterday when i went for a walk with my dad so im going to be making some little stoves once van is finished.

Ive seem what some have done with theres on hear so ill keep you posted when i start them

Its very difficult to get good MIG welds if you are working in windy conditions, and its best to shield the area where you are welding if at all possible.

If you are not working commercially then using more gas than required is not really going to be an issue, but in some cases excess gas means porosity in the weld, as shielding gas tends to mix with air if pressure or flow rate is too high.

Machines with cheap aluminuim windings will never work as well as those with copper windings, and even some good quality sets such as Migatronic have aluminuim windings nowadays.

The difference between a set with aluminuim windings compared to copper is very great, and the copper wound sets are far easier to use.
