I'm after a pair of square, pressed black and silver/white number plates for a vintage vehicle, the more original-looking, the better.

Any recommendations for companies which people have used?

A search for raised letter number plates should return the separate number/letter ones, the silver were originally cast aluminium, now injection moulded plastic

Tractors looking good, i have had 3 or 4 sets from Framptons in Sheffield (sister company to Jepsons) and they have always been top notch.

Last set was 3 years ago so hopefully nothing has changed with their process or QA.

Framptons do the 6 and 9 correctly, most others use a squared off more modern font for the 6 & 9 which look rubbish once you know the difference.

I know you want it to look nice, but would a farmer waste money on pressed plates?, if looking for originality a black background with stick on white characters would be closer, I've even seen fergies with a black square painted on the rear diff with numbers/letters stuck on

From the dealings I've had with farmers over the years I don't think they waste money on anything!

On numerous occasions when I've spent the night in the wagon parked in a farmyard I've had to be extremely careful where I was walking for fear of treading in the mortal remains of a long dead sheep or cow . One evening I was parked on a farm in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales next to what turned out be said remains and I said to the farmer: "As tha' nivver erd o' Jeff Mallock?" His reply was priceless: "Ee lad, tha's a lot ter learn sithi. No point paying fer knacker man when rats'll do it fer nowt!"

Half a dozen years ago I got black/silver pressed metal plates from the local motor factor just like youd get normal plastic ones. Might be worth an ask.

I had a set of black and silver plates for my old Land Rover. They were pressed aluminium but rather the black being painted, as traditionally, it was black vinyl which started to peal so an aspect to be wary about when searching for a supplier
