That's not true, French public pay less for their juice because their government have intervened and helped keep prices down.

The French government can afford to do this as they have so much nuclear. We can't as we use gas and renewables. Nuclear electricity has not been affected by Putin!

I think those figures are wrong - 9 bn is for total Dogger Bank project which is estimated to produce 18twh /yr

1 Rolls Royce SMR will produce 5twh/y.
Also 1 SMR site will be 2 acres. The Dogger Bank project over 1700sq km - bigger than Greater London

Why do you think our electricity is so expensive?
The Roills Royce SMRs will be privately funded. Cost 2 billion and will produce as much electricity in a year as 2 of World's biggest windfarms which cost over 9 billion.

It's built out at see, in a channel that has wind constantly

Are you serious? When there is an area of high pressure over Europe we can go for 2 weeks or more with almost zero wind power. Hence why I am so against all this nonsense. Battery storage will last for minutes not weeks.

I do not only use those sources. The 3 minute market? New one on me but probably about as long as batteries will power Britain.
As to facts you rubbish most of my comments but then never come back with the facts to back it up.

I just took the key figures from a quick skim over the link Kayos posted, but having searched for more information on the figures, you're correct.

Nuclear has helped buffer the cost of energy, europewide. Suspect France's wholesale price isn't dissimilar to ours and, if they were privatised the same as ours, don't worry, they'd have no issues hiking up the cost, exporting via interconnectors and makeing record profits there too. All non fossil fuel based energy sources have helped buffer the cost of energy though in these high cost times. Wind, sun, hydro etc though often relatively tiny, have all been lower cost than FF alternatives, even with subsidies. Without them energy would have been EVEN HIGHER!

My step son-in-law has had one for several years. Parked on top of the wood burner, he now has a bungalow that is warm from end to end, with the living room-to-hall door open.

Is that the one powered by the very heat it sits upon? Friends of mine in France had a couple sat on their log burner, at one end of their long narrow house. They give a good speed of heat all through.

Oddly enough, their 'house' was based around an ancient village bread oven, a pretty big one, and they added and extended it to make a really cool place to live.

Didn't Boris just state he will be opening one nuclear station every year, rather than one every ten. So, when is the first of these expected to start pumping out electric? And is there any substance to his ambition, or is it just lip service to the poor freezing masses?

Yes stove top fan powered by the Peltier effect. They help quite a bit.
The Rolls Royce SMRs are sadly about 8 years away but they will be fairly mass produced so when they are up an running it will be much quicker. They are talking about the UK alone having 16 of them.
Even companies like PayPal, Google and Amazon are interested in them for data centres.
And at the price they are quoting it will be within the reach of private energy companies to run them and compete against each other.

All that lack of investment in nuclear has caused, is; not as much nuclear as we might have had.

Lots more nuclear wouldn't solve all the issues were having, or have stopped them happening. It would have also resulted in other knock on consequences too, like, probably, higher energy costs over the past decades. The current energy cost situation and its potential solutions are complex with lots of factors/causes!
