I wonder what the payback time would be for a wood powered micro CHP plant in your living room.

CHP needs to run 24/7 to be efficient as they use a sterling engine. Huge house and huge thermal store, with big electrical baseload

They are still paying for the deepwater horizon fiasco. Yanks caused it Britain gets the blame!
As to these fat cat shareholders. The majority are pensioners who used top work for BP. I know several including a lovely old Aunt of mine who is 86 and partially blind. She used to rely on the dividends to top up her pension.

Criple the likes of bp with extra taxes, hurts the population. Some of their largest shareholders are pension funds and other institutional investors.

Yes many of us ex employees own shares, but the volumes dont go anywhere near the pension funds.

Looking at that chart from your post it’s been on a long steady decline for the past 2 months from 550p per therm on the 4th March to 131p per therm now

If you wondered why Hydropower is the Cindarella of renewable energy systems, despite being less prone to the vagaries of weather, and unlike solar, produces more power in Winter, that gov document should enlighten you. It is almost as if they don't want hydropower.

Luckily on the Somerset levels ( crewkerne to bridgewater ) the EA are perfectly qualified at doing that all by themeselves . Very much a do as I say not as I do policy here .

Then throw in a good dose of Wessex Water , you can then have a watercourse that is “Toxic by water quality standards but healthy as possible by fish quantities standards” . Their words not mine .

I recently saw this chart

It's easy to get distracted by the relatively swift and easy first bit at decarbonising the Grid that has been done. But a bit depressing to see just how much energy we use overall and where it still comes from. I.e, oil and gas.

Some changes that are being pushed; EVs and heat pumps, will help us use fewer kWh for the same jobs. But it's a massive task and, until I saw this hadn't quite realised how important energy use reduction probably need to continue. Don't know if that can be done without hurting living standards and growth or not.

People will not cut their energy consumption and hence their standard of living.
Britain had the World's first commercial nuclear power station. Over the last 30 years we turned our back on nuclear and that is why we are in this mess now. France is the only major country that gets most of it's power from nuclear AND they put out far less CO2 than any other country.
The sooner the Rolls Royce SMRs are up and running the better.
