Simple case of consider what you post, before posting.

About 20 of these massive gas heaters above and there all on.

Elf and safety is rife these days. Common sense vanished a long time ago.

Myself I think all health and safety should be banned including all guards on machinery. Natural selection would remove the section of society we don't need.

I delivered stuff to one of my fathers customers when I was helping out, early 80s. He had lost both his hands in an industrial press. Had two metal hooks, yes he got compo but couldnt even pick his own nose. Just an inadvertent accident on an unguarded machine that shouldn't have happened. He had only been out of the navy for about a year.
Couldnt use tv remote or set up the video recorder…..focuses the mind when you meet someone like that.

As well as those we do when machinery fails . . . or those without the oft-mentioned "common sense" instruct those not old enough to know, or argue, to do stupid stuff . . .

I've decided to be amused by those not understanding the basics of Health and Safety requirements, while benefiting from it in every single aspect of their life from birth . . . too tiring to be incredulous . . .

Perhaps. But when other countries simply continue to increase their GHG emissions without care, it does feel like we are peeing into the wind somewhat. Sure, we could do better but the difference it will make has got to be negligible, while China, India and Russia maintain the attitude they have.

The only fair way of pointing the carbon finger of blame is to attach a carbon count to every product made world wide, tabs should be kept on what countries have imported these products and add the count to their tally.Its all to easy to point at countries in the east guffing GHG emmisions but most of them are doing so to supply consumers in the west. We make nothing so we are clean doesn't really work, we import plenty.

Aaaand, back on topic. British Gas have informed us that our annual Electric bill will be going from about £1k annually to £3.5K She really should have listened to me ten years ago when I wanted Solar installing! Thing I struggle with is the standing charge is going to double? WTF has that got to do with energy costs? They are having my leg up.

My mum priced up solar panels the other day, turns out over "the lifetime" (No sure who's lifetime, the panels' I suppose?), they would come 800 quid shy of paying for themselves. Won't be bothering with that then.

Thats certainly a fair comment. It would be interesting to get a revised figure based on this. No idea if you could even calculate it.

I reckon I could quite easily get a couple of kW of solar heating panels on the south-facing gable end, and heating is the most important item on the energy bill.
Another idea I've been playing with for years is micro-hydro. There's a stream running along the south end of my property and a small paddle-driven alternator could supply a few hundred watts into an immersion heater all day long 24/7/365. That kind of thing really makes a difference.
If electric prices had risen as much as they have now (and more soon), but twenty years ago, both these things would have been done long since.
Roundtuits and long fingers abound.

My stream is tiny, I tried itto heat the green house…..the home made waterwheel worked but that was about it. Now in the skip!

I have to come under 8 years repayment for energy saving measures, we target 7.5

The repayment period will only drop as prices rise
