I acquired/ won this a few days ago. It’s a brand of tools I’ve never had or used. It’s a Skil 9021, 600w. It feels well built, a bit heavy maybe ( 1.7kg). The on off button is stiff but I’ll get used to it. Can’t say much more about it at the moment, hopefully get to use it over the weekend

Got to use this today. The on/off button is stiff and a bit awkward to use. That said the grinder did everything I asked it to do, grinding and cutting. For a 600w machine it has plenty grunt. Pretty pleased with my “purchase”

A few weeks back I ordered a plastic fridge box and got a wooden barrel planter!

I ordered 3 lathe handles and today these arrived NSK 1205 bearings (Japan) - if these bearings were made in Japan I'll eat my Toupee !

What made me laugh was the reply from the Chinese ebay seller "OMG my colleague in the warehouse is such an idiot!" as soon as I get the handles they will be going in the freebees if anyone wants the risk.

Today I acquired a new, in the plastic bag, 20" grab bar at a local charity shop. It cost less than the two donuts I bought at the Greggs bakery nearby.
It also passed the magnet test, and is stainless steel. Later in the day I purchased what's in the black box, but that will be for another thread.

Last night I acquired a 10, maybe 12' dia trampoline frame. Well, in reality I took one down to make way for a veg patch.

What to do with the old frame, tubular steel net supports, bfo disc of black springy trampoline, sections of the safety net that are salvageable?

I've l kept the 12 interlocking up rights . Putting a six inch x 10 mm long eyebolt in one at the waisted end backing it with big washers a plain nut & a nylock nut at the un-eyed side so it has the eye along the axis.

For the bottom I've a heat exchanger plate out of an old 30 yr old oil fired boiler , it's some 350 x 350 mm sq. and 5 mm thick . I've welded a 3 inch long bit of thick walled steel tube to the cross over point in the middle that fits a neat hole saw cut hole .& welded the tube in on both sides .
The tube is an easy fit in the widest end of an up right tube. Using a reasonable chain link style carabiner I've attached a quality (150 kg tested )plastic pulley to the eye bolt and use a 6 mm x 10 mtr rope through the pulley .

I've made a spreader bar and welded an eye on it across the angle out of 1.87 mtrs of equal angle iron . Put it all together the pulley's tube sections all seven of them stand over the stub of tube in the boiler plate the free end of the rope is attached to the spreader bar with a horses spring lead clip . The spreader bar is held to fence panels about six inches from each end to give as wide a spread as possible for lifting .

I've use this extendable pole of uprights to haul up new fence panels so I can slot them in the H section concrete set in concrete post on my own in windy conditions , lashing the assembled tower of uprights vertically to a cross bar of 3x2 timber held in big G 9 inch clamps between two fence posts . It's been a god send .. 22 fence panels costing £ 28 each plus vat fitted for nothing . A land scaping company wanted £ 3K to put in straight from the builder merchants panels & were going to send two guys and a truck . I got the builders merchants to deliver them

I sprayed all 22 panels twice on each side with Cupronal ( sp?) clear wood preserver and a few days later with 2 coats each side a, edges ,bottom & top with Finnegan's wood sealer . Any panels that had to be " adjusted got treated 7 sealed where I'd planed wood away .

One thing & had to do was set the panels laid flat on some bricks and than interleave them with roofing batons so the wind could dry the sopping wet panels out for a few weeks , Covering each stack of laid flat panels with a bit of tarp & brick weights , had two stacks of 12 panels each ..spares for making up bespoke panels that were only 3/4 or less of a full panel .
The amusing thing was the height shrinkage of the flat panels . we must have lost nearly three inches in stack height by the time I decided they were dry enough to absorb the preservative and sealers .

Being interlocking tube , three sets of tube stand easily inside the highedst corner of my garade . I've also used the tubes as a set of Egyptian rollers to move a 1/2 ton boulder 20 mtrs or more on 30 mm of construction ply on my own .

Some tungsten electrodes for TIG welding - I've been waiting for the black ones in particular, as I'm dabbling a bit with cast iron at the moment.

(Before this delivery I had no idea how variously long 175mm can be ... )



For those who may have wondered what the difference is between TIG and WIG welding: there is none.

What you call "Tungsten", we know as "Wolfram" - in both cases the element 74W is meant.

History:
As early as the 16th century, the Freiberg mineralogist Georgius Agricola described the occurrence of a mineral in Saxon tin ores that made tin extraction considerably more difficult by slagging the tin content.

The name Wolf- derives from this property, as the mineral "ate up" the tin ore like a wolf.

Whether this was wolframite is still disputed today, as Agricola spoke of the "lightness" of the mineral.
He called the mineral lupi spuma, which translated from Latin means something like "wolf(s) foam".

Later it was called Wolfram, from Middle High German rām "soot, cream, dirt", because the black-grey mineral is very easy to grind and then resembles soot.

Its chemical symbol W comes from the name Wolfram = Tungsten.

The word tungsten, which is common in English, Italian and French, is derived from tung sten (Swedish for "heavy stone").

Dropped Tough saws an email and got 2 x 1/2" x 10/14 M42 for my Femi bandsaw @ 14.50 each and delivered next day. Quality jointing as well.

Recent acquisitions..

Two injector puller/slide hammer sets. My van's injectors are blowing so the injectors need to come out.



They're both M16x1.5 thread, which is the important detail. The small weight is needed to fit under the Sprinter's cowl. The big weight is because injectors like to be awkward.

And this is why i needed M16x1.5 slide hammers; a Hazet puller claw to fit the injectors. This fits very few injectors and came from Germany. Only 3 companies seem to make the tool for these injectors.



In use:



Set of injector bore/seat cleaning brushes. Cheap, but worked great.



My mrs called me yesterday to say she'd got me something. She knows i love stacking crates. No idea where she found these:



And another bale arm crate i found dumped on the pavement. A thorough jetwash, but it's intact!
