So where are the bricks of notes coming from bob , are you slowly withdrawing them from under the mattress now you know no one takes cashAlso very strange looks and stupid questions from the tellers if you try and deposit a few bricks of notes. Even the counting machines struggle with some of it.

Nothing exciting just flogged a few bits,all well used notes and the counting machine kept spitting out all the dog eared stuff.

I'm a bit paranoid about doing any sort of payments on my phone so I don't have banking apps, NFC payment apps or even paypal on my mobile. I use Ringo and a couple of other parking apps because I have to but they are tied to the company payment account so it can't go out of my bank. I use my card in shops etc but not in vending machines and if I do ever get cash out of the hole in the wall which is rare I always cover the keypad closely with my other hand.
Perhaps I'm being overly cautious but I've ever been cloned or scammed. I see guys I work with swinging their phone about like a Jedi lighsabre paying for coffees and all sorts, they don't seem bothered.

Il have my banking app but payments are on my debit card. That's had contactless disabled.

In January 1999 I was sending emails from Jamestown New York to my mum in West Yorks . . . admittedly, as she simply could not handle "double-click" with a mouse (she did "click", move the mouse, "click" . . .), a mate of mine had to drive 15 miles to type and send the email, and then 15 miles home . . . "My mum" sent two emails in three months . . .. and I ran up an enormous US phone bill . . .

What annoys me more is not the lack of cash but shops moving to self checkouts. I hate the bloody things, which in many shops are card only. I will queue and pretend to be paying cash to avoid them. Theres generally a woman standing there being useless, who would be better on the tills.
I understand the need for cctv but self checkouts generally have one pointing right in your face with a screen showing it. Does nothing to stop theft, its just to get a very good look at you and to me is an invasion of privacy, and for that reason I will continue to wear a face covering in most supermarkets.
Keep a tenner with my phone but rarely spend it as I dont want to carry coins.

Priority.., who’s got the worst teeth.
In days gone by, when card had embossed numbers, you could run them through a manual machine to take details onto those carbon duplicate slips - your little manual machine, simply a spring loaded roller on a slide on a baseplate with a screw on embossed plate to put your company details on the same sheets too. You manually wrote on the amounts and details of goods etc. Slips went in the daily bag up to the finance office and I assume off to the bank for processing with the relevant card companies.
If that failed, you used a pen for the card numbers etc . . . with a queue out the door to pay for fuel on 24 pumps, that got old-fashioned pretty quickly! When cars were only a magnetic strip, you didn't even need your own reader to go down - worn out strips, cards that had been near magnets, dirty strips . . . never mind referring to a big thick A4 ring binders to check the card number wasn't on the list of cards that had been stolen or cancelled . . . the day we got the reader that checked for those with a simple swipe
. . .until customers got used to it, they wondered, but only rarely questioned, what we were up to - swipe the card through one thing (the cancelled list checker), then the actual till reader . . .I noticed a few years ago, modern cards aren't embossed, but I have no idea if manually entering details onto paper is still a thing.
