This post concerns something that I CANNOT fix today.

It’s the small oven on the right hand side, which keeps tripping the supply .

The irony of it all is that it’s got fully comp fix it insurance.

Grrrr.

I've had 4 or 5 over the years

Last one was a Magenta one, love that colour but swapped it for a motorbike, stupid decision

Years ago at the Dolomite Owners meet, one of the guys raced one and I was trying to figure out how he had managed to squeeze a 4 branch manifold on the engine, took a while but then realised he'd moved the starter motor

Prob the heating element. They do that. Easy enought to change. But you need to get the oven out fist!

If it's the fan element, some can be changed from inside the oven without pulling the whole unit out. Remove the backplate plate from inside the oven and see if the fixing is accessible. Wiring often has enough slack to pull the element forwards and disconnect.

You're right. It was the 1850 that soured the memory.

I goit this a few weeks ago.
As you can see it is more rust and pits than vice.

But it is complete.
Even the bench to vice bolts were still attached.
The person I got it from said he had used an axe to remove it from the bench, I quote:
"Was more worm n rot, than bench."

In bits.
The vice was seized on one place. lots off tapping with a lead hammer. Lots of oil, more coffee. Heat was used to remove the screw saddle at the end of the pins.

In paint, rattle can

Assembled.
The wood is an old oak floor board. Fitted with SS wood screws.
Then given a wax.

To give the jaws a bit of "give" there is a layer of clear silcon sealant. It starts off a white, but drys clear.

Bit od easy fun today.
Coffee, something I am assured is flap jacks. A beer, a nice friend to help.

This is what we did, inbetween chatting.

The sheet metal guage and Plough Spanner, as I aquired them.

Boiling in Citric Acid.

Cleaned.

Painted.

Cleaned, polished and waxed.
The handle was fitted when red hot into a sulphur filled hole.

Bit of fun.

Wasn't feeling the love for a horizontal acetylene gauge on my portapack bottle, undone the fitting and realised its 1/4" bsp.
Happened across a 1/4" bsp nipple and bend in the drawer so munched that into the gauge with some thread sealer

If it is slack enough, pull it through then put a clothes peg or bulldog clip on the wire to stop it disappearing back through the hole.

@8ob while there's nothing exactly wrong about what you've done, you've just opened yourself up to liability.

You've modified a tested and certified component of a piece of gas safety equipment. Therefore you have become the manufacturer.

If there was ever an accident with the bottle or the regulator, they'd throw the book at you mate.

Back in the 80s my old man's trailer went up. Luckily he smelt the propane gas and him + his partner managed to unhitch the trailer and shut both ends of the road.

They were at the scene for hours after the explosion whilst the fire brigade searched for the bottle and valve. When they found the valve they confirmed it had been closed, but the bottle broke away from its mountings, fell over and broke the stem. That would of been a serious investigation if that valve was open.

The remains of the bottle was 150m away in a farmers field.

So, fire up the music, chill the OJ. Fire up the heaters..
Switch of the power tools and we set to work.

This nice Ex MOD Ball bein hammer came my way the other day.
The shaft is one of my spares.

2 bladed hacksaw cut for the wedge, you can see the ehad cleaned up and ready to fit.
I used two blades to give a wider cut, in one go.
The head will be warmed untill spit bubbles. The fitted to the shaft, when warm. and a hardwood wedge driven in.

Nice easy job, apart from one annoying mistake.

Now for something cute and only for fun.

This brass pump, it looks like just a dust magnet.

In need of some tlc.

But taking it to bits, showed it had some potential. There is a one way valve in the pump body as well.

The handle is so loose, from bad assembly, wear and tear and it looks like it was dropped.

Dismantling and this was found.

Bit of Jig and pokery and we had it soldered back together.
That bit is a casting. the pump body a tube and the base looks like it was spun.

Many thanks to @mrsbruce for the items she made for me.
New cup washer was made, then soaked in warm Veg. oil.

Rebuilt.
Yes it does pump. Saddly the one way valve is shot.
The small spring is rusted and broken. The rubber valve is gone to powder. I made do and mended as the best I could with the spares I had.

To prein the base of the tank from the side walls I dressed this small cold chisiel to have one bevel. It was in a bundle I got the other day.
I heated the base, with hand pressure forced the chisiel inbetwen the 2 parts and it poped the base out. So I could get to the one way vavle.

I can live with that Brad, fittings used have a bursting pressure of well over 10,000 psi , that bottled gas is 250psi. I make up my own hoses as well, if I cant trust myself to tighten up a fitting or make up my own hoses I too deserve to be blown up and end up in a field 150m away. It not used by anyone else.
