Given the sorry/sordid history of the affair, I would be fighting for removal asap - rather than running the risk of them attempting a fresh order (but this time with all 'i's dotted and 't's crossed) as once they start down that route it will be very attractive in their eyes to leave it there and say it's already there, and we're just waiting for the paperwork to catch up. Might be a different story when they have to justify the cost of installation, followed by cost of removal, followed by cost of installation....££££££££££££££££

Makes you wonder at times what some of these planners have between their ears? On the A14 just outside Cambridge there was a large lay-by installed, probably at huge cost , it was opened then immediately shut due to the fact it was downright dangerous to exit it onto a fast moving dual carriageway just a few hundred metres from the M11

This has been bought on by all the Walkers out in the countryside,
Driving their cars to where ever, parking badly, and causing a nuisance, while they go for a walk.
Now on the other hand, us Trail Riders don't park illegally, ride legal byways, but are still the Bad Guys.

46km of 50mm red lines in the forest, 11.5km of double lines each side oof the road, now looking for a quote for removal,

just found this from 2019,

copy of an email from May 2020..

(1) Can you tell me when the red route enforcement patrols will start in Epping Forest?

I understand that these were due to start on Friday 22nd May

(2) Will there be any signage to tell motorists that the advisory red route is now compulsory?

Signage advising this has been installed

(3) Will future A4 public notices be placed where they can be accessed and read without stopping on the red route bearing in mind there are no footpaths alongside roads in the forest and very few parking spaces?

Any replacement A4 signs will be placed in appropriate place.

(4) Who bears the cost of red line removal when this temporary scheme comes to an end, and has it been budgeted for?

ECC/NEPP would be responsible for these costs. I am unsure if CoL or Epping Forest District Council would make a contribution at this time. There are funds available to cover the cost of removal.

Hah.
There are friggin' lay-byes on the motorways, here.
I hadn't been down the new motorway until a couple of years after it opened, and I was gobsmacked to see it.
Thing is, there was sleight-of-hand for the funding. Ireland had EU money coming in to build / upgrade the main routes, but there wasn't enough for full-blown motorways, so the grant money that arrived was used to build dual-carriageways instead, and then re-designate them as m'ways later.
That would have been ok, up to a point, but some eejits forgot to erase the lay-byes from the plans, so they got built.

Thank you for your recent email regarding TRO2/TRAF7276 – Fairmead Road closure. We regret to hear of your concerns.

We have liaised with Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) colleagues; they have advised, as you have mentioned, that the temporary experimental order has lapsed and unfortunately this was not picked up by the team. We are advised that this is due to pressures in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions including staffing issues. We offer this information by way of an explanation only and not an excuse as the lapsed order not being picked up is recognised as being unacceptable and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We are advised that the Prohibition of Motor Vehicles arose from conservatories for the area in question, and was paid for by them. The TRO team raised the necessary paperwork to enforce the experimental order.

We are currently waiting for feedback from our Local Highways Panel (LHP) team on the best way forward, but it would seem that the best solution would be to have the gate chained open whilst there is not a legally enforceable order in place. It is our understanding that the LHP are working with the City of London to discuss the best way forward.

Regarding your comments about there not being a permanent TRO recorded on the Essex Highways database, we can confirm that there is not currently a permanent TRO in place and as such there is no information on the Essex Highways website in light of this. We can also advise that no Notices would have been put up to advertise a permanent order as a permanent order has not been issued.

Please be assured we are working with colleagues to have the gate chained open until a further decision has been made regarding any further restrictions.
