I plan to do something like this on our project house as it will have slate tiles for the roof, which slopes towards the front door.

It's a stop so it melts instead of just running down in 200 km/h

Used to be a relatively common thing on older buildings. Stops the snow sliding off the roof in sheets.

As kids, we used to chuck snowballs up on the steep roofs to start an avalanche, must try it this winter to see if it still works .

I've mostly seen them on church buildings.

Drilled the lathe headstock to mount the swarf deflector I acquired recently. I placed a magnet on the inside of the headstock to catch any chippings the drill might leave behind, which worked well. Also, I scraped and sanded the steel top of the workbench, which came up nice as there was quite a bit of rust.

How difficult is it to feed a new 'elephant's trunk' back down the chimney stack? I assume some are a pain due to bends in the building design/layout.

I thought about this, and although I haven't seen it done, I would think that a wooden plug would be fitted in the end of the pipe with a domed metal cover temporarily screwed over it and a weighted rope attached to the end that would be dropped down the chimney first. I drew up a sketch, but it looked like something else so decided not to post it.

I suppose old(er) buildings would be more problematic, where the stack isn't built using regular blocks/bricks.

Our project house has a stone chimney, which I think I'm going to abandon and run a triple wall flue pipe for our future wood burner.

We use a rope and an aluminium nosecone. Tape the cone to the liner, drop rope down from the top and pull/push/twist etc.

If we're really unlucky we open holes up in the walls in the upstairs bedrooms, or outside of the house!!!
