Interesting .When I didn't feel like drilling a hole in the end of my nice shiny new GYS Mig, I used the same tube on axle stand setup to sit the 15kg roll on, then wound wire from it onto an empty 5kg roll mounted in the lathe, running the lathe quite slowly, guiding the wire with a stick as I didn't want to see if mig wire would do a good impression of a cheese cutter on my fingers.
The really interesting bit is controlling two ends of wire on two rolls when you cut it . . .
Perhaps use a bearing'd axle on the larger drum holding bracket outside of the machine through a dust protecting carboard box & having the reel vertical , run the wire coming off the bottom through a shielded hole in the back of the machine put two turns of wire round a small reel inside the machine and then lay it into the feed as normal maybe use a felt block brake on edge of the rim of the big reel to stop it unwinding too easily .
