When I didn't feel like drilling a hole in the end of my nice shiny new GYS Mig, I used the same tube on axle stand setup to sit the 15kg roll on, then wound wire from it onto an empty 5kg roll mounted in the lathe, running the lathe quite slowly, guiding the wire with a stick as I didn't want to see if mig wire would do a good impression of a cheese cutter on my fingers.

The really interesting bit is controlling two ends of wire on two rolls when you cut it . . .

Perhaps use a bearing'd axle on the larger drum holding bracket outside of the machine through a dust protecting carboard box & having the reel vertical , run the wire coming off the bottom through a shielded hole in the back of the machine put two turns of wire round a small reel inside the machine and then lay it into the feed as normal maybe use a felt block brake on edge of the rim of the big reel to stop it unwinding too easily .

Took out the cup hooks and put my homemade brackets up:

I've made several such tube supports in different sizes with a solid body and a tail on the back which is pressed into a bearing which in turn is pressed into a cup with tail that fits in the big tail stock chuck

I'm trying to develop an internal expanding sleeve to fit inside tubes that need the end facing but are too big for the headstock tube . Have you got any such devices ?

I finally fitted the 4jaw to the Harrison.

Have a few small jobs that have been stalled.

Looks to be about 5tenths run out, I'll accept that for a 4jaw or even a 3 jaw

Stuck a tungsten to my er40 spanner I used tig braze for this, quite happy with the result - my previous tests with CuSi filler were rubbish.

Then some terrible attempts at sticking a filler rod to parts for anodising. Filler will be the positive terminal.

Used both the new lids and I think I prefer the cheapy Amazon Ginour, but both very similar.

And what is the benefit of using a chuck instead of the live center like above?

No not yet maybe consider a small three jaw chuck and adapt the jaws?

It was raining pretty heavily,I was driving on a particular street as I do every day.
Hide in a pond there was a pretty deep hole , didn't see it .
60km/h loaded car , I've heard a pretty awful sound ,then the air coming out and the car shacking.
Replaced the wheel in less than 15 minutes, and had to literally lift the car with my arms,to fit the jack in place.
Back on the road and in less than 2 km again the car was shaking.
Check the rear wheel ,dented rim and flat tire.
Call a friend, he came with an air compressor and an hammer.
Lifted the car straighten out the rim.
And inflated the tire.
Later I will try to get the front rim straight ,I'll upload some pictures.
Fortunately the tires are still in great shape.

If you hit it hard enough to damage the rim, I think there is a very good chance the sidewall of the tyre is damaged & will have a bulge in.

Hello Damian, Sorry about the delay replying, My Butters/Fimer 215amp welding set that came with the extra 15Kg rear reel carrier. Looked at the machine rear panel and there is a black insulator ready in place to take the 15Kg wire through to the 4 roller feeder. Hope that you can spot it, Its the small black thing below the data plate, Also just see it peeping through the casing on the reel compartment,

The chuck has a morse taper comes with the lathe and can be used with any of these home made live centre supports of different diameters , whereas you need several different diameters of tube support ing live centres with morse tapers at a greater expense

Have you ever tried to repoint & sharpen a centre drill in the drill press whilst using a small angle grinder to get the basic shape back , before putting in the cutting faces by hand at the grind stone wheel ?

Thanks Gordon, that looks like a very nice machine.
One last question on this, does the 15kg reel carrier bolt to the top or the back of the machine?
I assume it's on the back and the wire naturally feeds into the insulator but then it might clash with the argon bottle.
My mig swivels on the trolly I made so the 15kg reel puts a stop to that, but it's quick and easy to convert back to 5kg reels if I want that feature back. (I find this handy if you are working in a tight spot and are using a 3m torch)

Hello Damian, 15Kg bracket fits to the rear of the casing, I have never used it, For the amount of welding that I do 5Kg is ok. The machine is very nice, Doing Mig,DC tig and stick, Also many synergic settings covering Steel, Stainless, both types of Ally, and Cu. Plus Pulse gun too, se, And will take a spool Hope you and your family in NI are all well,
