Ive seen loads of TV series about the Police seizing these scrotes assets (assumes they ever catch them) & selling them at auction.
What I dont understand is why do the recovered assets go to the Treasury & not the victims. I understand the investigations cost money (but the ratepayers surely pay those) & I know they sometimes give money to local charities but surely the victims deserve something of recovered assets.

Hi, From what I understand a claim can be made under the victim support scheme. Which is based a an impact statement the police should take during its investigations. It won't cover all the damages and loss. It's decided at the court case and is paid by the dirtbag accused to the court either in a one off payment or by instalments. It's down to the court to collect and forward the payments to the claimant.

Seems it was a sustained, targeted scam but the official response was not great

It's possible to register an interest in a property on the Land Registry site, they will email you if anything happens to it.

Might not have helped that poor chap though if they had access to his email account....

All this falls to 'Action Fraud' not the local police force from what I can see all they do is act as a register of the fraud investigation is minimal.

As quoted in the article the box stock Polis response is : sounds like a Civil Matter to us.

I have heard that so many times in my life. The bottom line is, if they record it, it messes with their figures, if it goes to Action Fraud it is a National Statistic. Just look at the success story that is Greater Manchester Police, their Chief Constable was a runaway success story (since "retired") until someone realised crime was only appearing to go down because they were simply not recording it!

as quoted dvla is the responsible party in this fraud case as they issued illegal documentation

no offense here to others my thoughts are anything important should stay in house within uk shores not abroad

You can't. In my expérience.

That is just messed up. As far as I can see it the 'buyer' hasn't bought a house he's been conned out of 130 grand by a fraud involving identity theft. Quite how someone can conclude that the guy who bought something from a person who had no claim to it and is now the legal owner is beyone me. The guy who owned it is still the guy who owns it - until HE decides to dispose of his own property.

It ain't a civil matter, it fraudulent theft of 130 grand. The 'house' was just the bait to pull it off.

Having just purchased a property, the chap selling had to provide the details and jump through several hoops as he was selling on behalf of a deceased relative. It was one of the reasons there were delays. My solicitor made damn sure he was legally able to sell it!

And no doubt his defence council will claim that removal of his teddy bear in his tender years gave him PTSD which precludes him from working &paying his victim back for what was thieved.

ive seen police take away cars because it dosnt belong to them

id say the same with the house new owner dosnt own the property

When selling our house, even the Estate Agents ran several checks to make sure we were the rightful owners. The solicitors appeared to be quite thorough, too.
